Wonderful resort on a wonderful island!
I went to Bermuda with my adult son for a long weekend. The Fairmount Southampton was perfect. All of the staff from bellmen, to shuttle bus drivers to concierge to waiters could not have been more friendly and helpful. Bermuda is not the easiest place in which to get around. The Fairmount has everything on site. We snorkeled, rode jet skis, hung out on the beach and drank Dark and Stormies, hiked to other beaches, had great meals and took the complimentary ferry ride into Hamilton for dinner. We missed playing golf at the resort's Par 3 course but I'll do it on my next visit when I bring my wife. It was a Bermudaful vacation!

Average expensive hotel
First I travel a lot and I am comparing this hotel to expensive and moderately priced places. As far as the Staff they were extremely friendly and helpful, I think it had more to do with the citizens of Bermuda than the hotel. I am an easy going traveler and will not be one to make a stink. I was at this hotel off season (October). When I checked in and went to my room I could not get over the great view of a roof and the side of the hotel from my first floor balcony. I asked if I can get a room with somewhat of a better view and told there were none available. I found out later on that there were plenty of other rooms available. The first night my A/C was dripping I went to the concierge that morning and I saw/heard her ask for maintenance to check it out. I don't know if they did but at the end of my stay (3 days) the paint had peeled and it had developed a hole. When ever me or my girl would get hit with a drop we joked and compared it to the crystal cavern kiss. At check out the woman had noticed that I was charged for coffee one morning, she said I was entitled to free continental breakfast with my package. I ended up having the continental breakfast that day (It was terrific) But I wish someone at check in would of told me that, I'll take part of the blame on that for not knowing. The hotel itself is not near (walking distance ) of any town. I like that. If your planning to spend a day at the hotel food and drinks are expensive but the snorkeling, jet ski's and scooter rental are priced accordingly to the rest of the island. They provide shuttle service to the beach and there are plenty of taxi's available. I spent the first night and the last day at the hotel exclusively. Again I can't say enough about the people of Bermuda. As far as staying at this particular hotel again. I can't say it was a horrible experience, but I wouldn't say "You have to stay at the Fairmont SouthHampton" It's more of I can take it or leave it.

Wonderful choice in Bermuda
We had a great time at this resort, which has to be one of the best in Bermuda. This was one of the best Fairmont properties that we have stayed at. The basic (moderate) room that we booked was very large, and had a view of the ocean even though we didn't pay for it. Amenities in the hotel are good, and the beach is phenomenal. The pool is a great spot to hang out, and clears out completely around dinner time. One night I had the entire pool and hot tub to myself. I would highly recommend staying at this resort, especially if you can get a good price (I would say anything below $200 USD is a tremendous deal). I would also recommend staying here over the Fairmont Princess. The Princess is in the city, and doesn't have a beach. The locals all say that the Princess is preferred if you're visiting Bermuda on business, but for a vacation, stay at the Southampton.

Everyone says that Bermuda is "really expensive". We found the restaurants at the hotel to have really reasonably priced food offerings (especially lunch). You could get a good lunch for $12. Alcoholic drinks are incredibly pricey though, so hit the duty free on your way. Also, I would recommend packing breakfast snack foods. The breakfast buffet at the hotel is $35 per person, which is really expensive. I only found paying this price was worth it for the brunch that they offer on sundays. It has a lot of traditional bermudian foods. I knew it was good because many locals attend the brunch on Sundays. In addition, take the bus rather than taxies. It will save you a fortune. The concierge can tell you all you need to know about the comfortable and safe public bus service.

We Love Fairmont Southampton
It's been four years since we were at the FS, and this hotel is as good as it ever was. We love the outstanding hospitality of the staff, and the lovely atmosphere of the hotel with its lobby bars and restaurants. And plenty of activities that are varied including the bonfire BBQ on the beach, and the nature walks. The rooms are always spotless and cheerfully decorated, the restaurants are all wonderful, the beach is my favorite in the area since it is in a private cove, and the other amenities including the pool and spa are fabulous. The location of this hotel is the best on the island, and every single staff member is warm and extraordinarily helpful and charming. We can't wait to come back.
