Great Anniversary Trip

Been going to Bermuda at least once over the past 15 years. Most times stay at the Newstead and always enjoy it. Quiet. Easy access to both the beach and Hamilton (by Ferry). Rooms are nice. This time we stayed in the Studio Deluxe in the cottage which is right on the harbour and overlooks Hamilton.

This could be the best in Bermuda if...

The restaurant should be managed better. Breakfast took over an hour for cold cereal and a bowl of oatmeal. Tea came after 20 minutes and the milk arrived 10 minutes after that. Just not very efficient, but it's a beautiful property. Better management would make it perfect

Roomy and Convenient

This was our second stay at the Newstead. The hotel is convenient to Hamilton, the rail trail, and ferry service. Some rooms, as did ours, offer condo like amenities, including a full kitchen, living room, bedroom and very large balconies and overlooking the harbor. The property is essentially Bermuda's version of a time share. Nice pool, workout room and spa. They have an excellent French restaurant on site, and golf is available up the hill at the Belmont Hills. They do not have a beach on site (a drawback for some), but they do have beach privileges at the Coco Reef, less than 10 minutes away. They provide on demand shuttle service to and from that beach. Staff is friendly and accommodating.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Walk to Coco Reef Beach (Elbow Beach): Exit the property with the tennis courts on your right and carefully walk across the road to Chapel Road. Follow Chapel to Tribe road and walk up the hill. Take a left on the Rail Trail and walk 10 minutes to South Road (crosses the rail trail). Take a right and walk 5 minutes to the Coco Reef beach. Nice 20 minute walk. For those looking for more exercise, continue past South Road on the Rail Trail for 20 minutes. Keep walking on South Road (after the trail ends) and within 5 minutes you'll arrive at the Botanical Gardens. Be careful when crossing the roads and rotaries on South Road!

Ideal boutique hotel for any visitor

We stayed at Newstead from 9/30 - 10/4 as our "mini-moon", and chose a gem of a hotel. We stayed at the Fairmont Southampton last year where I proposed, and Newstead is on the opposite end of the hotel spectrum. Fairmont is larger, busier, more remote, ocean-facing and with more amenities, whereas Newstead is smaller, more central, more "boutiquey", bay-facing, and with larger, more intimate suites. All rooms have excellent harbor views, and we really enjoyed being in room 410 in the cottages. Our suite was huge with full kitchen, two patios, and a back-yard directly on the water. The suite layout really makes this location for visitors of all types - couples seeking a luxurious room or a family looking to have separate spaces for parents and kids. The full kitchen and proximate store (ask shuttle driver to stop - and tip if so!) make it possible to buy plenty of food/drinks to get you by and perhaps skip a meal a few pricey Bermuda meals out. Great perks were complimentary transportation from and to the airport and the round of golf per day (note - course is very nice but very narrow!). Though the property does not have a beach, guests have full access to the beautiful private beach at Coco Reef which is only a 5 minute hotel shuttle ride away. Staff was exceptionally friendly through and through, with a special nod to Patrica at the front desk and our favorite driver/bellman Eric - both are class acts. Read a few reviews complaining about the ferry to Hamilton's schedule, however we found it prompt, frequent, and quick (you are in downtown Hamilton in 5 minutes). The only items preventing a 5-point rating are a few small touches (certain spots of chipped paint/plaster, dislodged patio screen doors) and a more beautified pool bar area. These are only minor points, and we will definitely staying at Newstead again for future trips.

A suite with a view

My husband and I booked the one bedroom suite that had a full kitchen. We were able to bring our own food which helped us to economize. The suite was immaculate, the staff was friendly and thorough in cleaning the suite. There was access to a free ferry to take you to Hamilton City and a shuttle bus to take you to the beach and golf course. An infinity pool added to the amenities. To wake up each morning to the view of the ocean and have access to a spa, tennis court and gym made the stay unforgettable. We will definitely be back.

Need to step it up a notch!

We've stayed here before. Don't know why the restaurant service was so slow, but breakfast could take up to 45 minutes. That's ridiculous for eggs and cereal! The room is very nice, but the one bedroom suite is comfortable. Feels like maybe the hotel was understaffed this trip. Hope for better things next time. Golf, as always, was great!

The best stay we ever had!

We stayed here before and liked it very much: conveniently located with the great view, very clean with very helpful and pleasant staff. This time we booked entry level room as the last time and were very surprised that got upgraded to one bedroom suit. It We still don't know the reason. It was in fact our 30th anniversary, but no one possibly could know about it. It was a treat! It is almost 1000 sf with panoramic view of the Hamilton harbor with tree balconies, full kitchen, two bathrooms and everything you could possibly think about. Had best time. Will be back!

Wow!

We have stayed here before and had great experience. That was major reason to come back. The other things were: 3nd night free, complementary airport transfer and overall value. But what we got it is another story. We got complementary upgrade to one bedroom suit right on the water. Wow! 270 degree water view, full kitchen and everything you could think about. Great stay! We will be back!

wonderful stay at the Newstead Belmont!

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It's conveniently located across the bay from Hamilton (the main area where there are restaurants, etc). The hotel offers a shuttle across the water on weekdays and a few runs on Saturdays; the public ferry stops very near also; and buses run most of the time and drop you off a 10-minute walk from the hotel. In Bermuda, where the world mostly shuts down after 6pm and on Sundays, these transportation options are very helpful. The pizza at the hotel was delicious, the room was very very comfortable, and the staff were very accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay and would go back!
