Beautiful! Very accommodating!!

The hotel was absolutley beautiful! The staff couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating or friendly! The chef at the onsite restaurant was incredible as well. We had not pre-planned anything, and they set up our activities within minutes and made great suggestions. Couldn't have been better!! Location was perfect, accross the bay from Hamilton with their own ferry making trips all day and night. The Belmont golf course was fantastic as well. Rooms were gorgeous!! Most highly recommend!!!

Great Place!

We opted for the 1 bedroom suite (willing to spend extra because it was our 40th anniversary) and the higher cost was MORE than compensated by the additional space as well as the furniture and fixtures. Ultramodern kitchen (I had to spend some time reading the combined microwave and convection oven manual to figure out its use), two flat screen TVs, a DVD player, very comfortable king size bed, a master bath with walk-in shower and jacuzzi tub, a two-rooms-wide veranda with outdoor furniture overlooking the resort's pools and Hamilton Bay, a very spacious living room, and (believe it or not!) a separate powder room just inside the front door. Before we left, however, we strongly urged the resort's management to install "grab bars" in the master bath -- a surprising lack, given that little else was missed. There were towels galore, extra bedding (the couch in the living room opened up to another bed, on which I can't comment because we had no use for it), and the kitchen was fully furnished with just about everything one would need to prepare meals. The "preparing meals" capability was a wonderful option because, with food as expensive as it is in Bermuda, being able to buy the basic ingredients (expensive though THEY were) sure saved us a lot on breakfasts. And having the refrigerator/freezer available meant that we could easily "save" any leftover food from a restaurant meal to have the next day for lunch. The restaurant on site is well regarded (supposedly the only French restaurant in the country!) but expensive even by Bermuda standards. We ate dinner there once, lunch the day we left, and had a meal delivered to our room on another occasion. The resort has a "relationship" with another facility not too far away which offers additional recreational opportunities and, at least up through the afternoon, shuttle transportation between the two locations is provided free of charge (as well as with the golf course which forms part of the resort). Other free and very useful services included shuttle transportation between the resort and the airport and water taxi connections between the resort's own dock and the main ferry dock across the Bay in Hamilton. Among options on site that we did not use were tennis courts, a small but well-equipped exercise room, and (mainly for the ladies, though they are trying to appeal to male guests), a spa offering beauty salon services as well as what I would call "European style" massage/aromatherapy/hotrock/Eastern-meditation services. The staff (particularly the very attentive concierge who is available from early morning to midafternoon each weekday) was excellent from start to finish. All in all, Newstead was an enjoyably lucky choice which we would wish to repeat in the future. The fact that we had to leave early due to a medical emergency made the experience all the more worth repeating because we saw (and planned) many things that it turned out we could not do -- Concierge [...]rolled with the punches and provided everything we needed to get through the doctor/hospital visits, the rescheduling and eventual cancellation of reservations, and the abrupt early departure. Without a doubt, this was the best "vacation" travel we have taken in a long while.

Use the ferry services to get a great view of Bermuda's north coast. For very little cost, you get to connect between Hamilton (the capital), the Dockyard (lots of things to do there), and St. George's (the original settlement), plus see the coastlines.

Food in Bermuda is expensive. There is a nice super market near Newstead Belmont to purchase items. And since most rooms at Newstead have a small kitchen, it's worth a trip to save a few dollars on food and drink.

great location even better suites

This resort is in a great location with their own ferry to Hamilton, with free morning and evening runs, from there the ability to go anywhere in the island. Their 1 bedroom suite is to die for, with awesome kitchen facilities and absolutely gorgeous views of the bay, Hamilton and one of the biggest harbors in Bermuda. However, if you did not have the ability to make your own meals and you did not wish to stay in Hamilton, you had to go hungry because on Friday & Saturday their only restaurant was closed. Throughout our stay the bar was closed completely. Everyone tried to be extremely kind, thoughtful and eager to answer any of your questions, from the front desk, housekeeping and restaurant staff. The housekeeping staff went above and beyond; with daily changes of your bed linens & bath towels and a completely cleaned suite as well. While this resort tried very hard to please, it would have been nice to know that there was no restaurant beforehand.

Modern Luxury, Bermudian Charm

My wife and I planned a long weekend getaway for our Anniversary and decided to try Newstead based on the reviews I've read. We were not disappointed. Upon arrival at the hotel the "wow" factor is immediately apparent as you enter the glassed in lobby with a stunning view of the pool area and across the harbor to Hamilton. The desk attendant and bellhop were attentive to our questions and stored our bags since we were very early for check in. We took advantage of the hotel water shuttle to head into town for some food shopping, lunch, and Dark 'n Stormys. The entire facility is modern yet retains many of the typical Bermudian color, landscaping, and architectural styles. We booked a Deluxe Studio, located in the "Sunset Suites" building on the west end of the facility with views across to Hamilton and Salt Kettle. On previous trips we have stayed at the Fairmont properties and enjoyed the classic atmosphere but I must say, having modern amenities in the room - small kitchen, jetted tub, wifi, flat screen TV and over 100 clear cable channels is more our preference. High on our to do list was Sunday Brunch at Blu located at the Belmont Hills Golf Course (free hotel shuttle bus). The club house is located on a hill overlooking Great Sound and the numerous islands. The view from our table was outstanding and allowed us to watch all the power and sail boats dart around as we enjoyed omelettes, waffles, and fish cakes. Recovery from brunch required a 3 hour nap at the pool. As others have commented, the hotel location is somewhat remote; however, between the water shuttle and buses/ferries available in Hamilton you can get to anywhere on the island easily. We did take a taxi to the Swizzle South Shore one evening ($10.25 + tip each way). Being our fourth trip to the island in 2 years we know very well what to expect when it comes to expenses in Bermuda. Travelers should do their research to avoid "sticker shock" when they go out to eat or have a few pints. Overall, the resort was top notch. We are already planning a return in the Spring to escape the New England cold. The only suggestion I have for the management to consider would be the placement of a non-slip mat in the shower/tub. It is a high step over the edge of the tub with no grab handles which made it tricky to get in and out without slipping. Just something to think about.

Make sure to contact the concierge 48 hours before arrival to arrange for the complimentary shuttle from the airport. It's a small item but having a driver waiting for you at the customs exit is a nice touch. Pick up the hotel ferry schedule. There are multiple runs across the harbor to Hamilton in the morning and afternoon - but make sure you are at the dock a few minutes before the scheduled departure so you don't miss the boat!
