6 inch hair in my food
went last year in june, 6 inch hair in my food, a bug in my water, my girlfriends key opened the wrong door, and a staff member was abusive to myself and my date, and our friend's son who was the cofounder of Staples. so i contacted the Gm [...] who invited me back and said he would make it up to me. went back and found out folks from boston only paid 1400 for 5 nights and two airline tickets which brought it down to 100 a night which was less than what I paid. So i went to front desk and they put my room rate down and I printed the folio. Thank god I did this cause when I checked out I saw they put the room rate up over 700 dollars. I had to fight and dispute it with the credit card company which just added to this mess of a HOTEL. I WENT TO HOTEL SCHOOL AND HAVE A BS DEGREE, AND I WILL TELL U THE DEAL. HALF THE STAFF IS SNOTTY,. THE BEACH IS MAN MADE AND NOT THE PINK SAND U HEAR OF. THE NICK NAME ON THE ISLAND IS GHETTO BAY. I DID NOT MIND THE ROOM OR THE POOL OR THE CAVES. BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS WHY IN THE WORLD DID I GIVE THEM A SECOND CHANCE. I SHOULD HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON THE FIRST TIME AROUND. LET THE BUYER BEWARE. IF YOU WANT TO SIT ON A SLOPED MAN MADE BEACH WHERE U CAN'T GET A SEAT CAUSE THE LOCALS SNEAK ON AND LISTEN TO THE JETS FLY OVER THEN THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. I SUGGEST ELBOW BEACH. OH YA FOOD WAS OK. IM USED TO ISLAND FOOD AND EDIBLE IS OK WITH ME. THE CHEF WAS VERY NICE.

Grotto Bay Resort: Bermuda
Just returned from a four-night stay at The Grotto Bay and had an overall pleasant experience. The food was very good, expensive but very relative to most resorts on any island. The rooms were very clean, quiet. I will say that if you are not one to have to hike from your room to the hotel, restaurants or lobby, this is not the place for you! There are stairs EVERYWHERE! Also, if you're looking for a gym to get in a workout- this is also not the place for you. I was very disappointed to go for my first run of the trip and find that Bermuda (at least the east side of the island) has very few sidewalks and it's incredibly unsafe to go for a run. Hoping the gym would be Plan B, I was disappointed to find that there is one treadmill, bike and elliptical in a small, unaircondtioned room overlooking the bay. The pool is very nice, there are a lot of water activities on site as well. Walking distance to one restaurant, a convenience store and an ice cream shop, but that's about it. Bus system is excellent and the hotel has one right at the property. Staff was friendly and helpful.

decent
Not a bad stay. No early check in. They even made us wait 10 minutes after the check in time before we got a key. The hotel is close to the airport but nothing else really. It's about a 30 min bus ride into the town of Hamilton. Room was clean. Food was decent.

Clean, inviting, and great grounds!
Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The beach onsite is clean and well maintained. The room view was wonderful, although the room itself needs some updating, but clean and spacious. The pool bar & grill was closed while I was there, and the climb up the stairs to the main house is definitely a work out! But, for me I enjoyed the extra exercise. the cave on site is great, & much better than the Crystal caves down the st. Location is close to airport, good for short trips, but I needed to take many long bus rides to get to the beautiful beaches on the west end, and 1/2 hr bus ride to hamilton. It is a little far away from everything. The prices for food and drink are very steep, so either opt for all-inclusive, or go to hamilton supermarket and buy snacks & sandwiches. Although it was tasty. Don't bother w internet, is pricey and dosen't work in the room. All in all, will probably return if visiting Bermuda for short time and want to be close to airport.

the hotel is lovely you have access to evertthing but i got the allinclusive and they didn't mention it only seasonal with some of the amenities so traveling in January 2013 is not a good thing due to no access to most amenties at the hote and you don't get to enjoy the real beauty of the hotel. the food was tasty but expensive the tolite does not work I had to fix it my self the person that came didn't do a good job because as soon as they left it broke again if you on a budget or with family but yes I would recomend this hotel all the Staff are worderful and helpfull. Remember to enjoy this hotel go in the summer and do all inclusive

Great smaller resort, reasonable prices
The room was a little damp, an old AC/heating unit, etc. However, the resort is in the process of renovating all the units and I heard from guests who were staying in the newer sections that those rooms are much better. Right now it looks like everything is the same price, so it'd be a good idea to ask for a room in the newer construction. I went in January, which is the off-season, so not everything about the resort was operational - no poolside bar and grill, only one restaurant, no watersports, etc. But I still had a good time with the beach, the caves (SO COOL!), and the hot tub. :) One drawback is the location - it's a 20 minute bus ride to Hamilton and a 15 minute ride to St. George. You can walk to the original Swizzle Inn, though - a must visit.

Short walk from hotel
Swizzle Inn, just up the road, has great pub food which is cheap by Bermuda standards. It's also the original home of the Rum Swizzle. There are business cards and people's names all over all of the walls and ceiling... it's refreshing after the more high-class/stuffy restaurants in Hamilton.

Breathtaking....
Grotto Bay Beach resort was the perfect relaxing get away! Beach was very private, view from the room was amazing and staff was very helpful/friendly. Good variety of food options. Not to close to town but bus stops right out side of the front gate which was very convient. The resort had tons of stairs so if that is an issue it's not the place for you, prepare for a daily work out. Would definately return. It was like my own little piece of paradise.

Great getaway
This is a great space for a retreat from busy lives. The staff at this hotel are warm and friendly, some of whom have been there for 20+ years. They know the island and variety of things for people to do and help with bus information and reservations etc. I had stayed previously at the Fairmont Southampton for a much higher price and although it was splendid, Grotto Bay is a more boutique and relaxed environment. My only complaint would be their wi-fi service, which was sketchy in the rooms and the printer was broken in the business centre - I was compensated for this, but if you need to be in touch with work, it's a bit slow.
