Such a shame

The Grotto Bay Beach hotel is an absolutely beautiful hotel in a gorgeous setting. The beach on the bay was so relaxing. It was just a shame that the staff was, almost to a person, unfriendly and discourteous. We were told that many of the hotel workers were burnt out at this time of year(second week in Sept.) We only had dinner at the hotel one evening and my meal was excellent but my wife's was marginal and she didn't want to complain because the waiter was obviusly hurried and over his head with the job. Our room was average except for the musty smell but that could have been unavoidable as it was very muggy that week.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Get a multi-day bus pass. It's the best value, the taxi cabs are expensive and forget the scooters, the natives make Boston drivers look like angels!

Quick stay..airport friendly

Great for it's really close location to airport, so you can start your vacation faster. But for those that have never been to Bermuda, it is a trek to experience how fabulous this island is....this is a very basic hotel. Inside bar not open during the day. So if you wish a beverage, you must walk allllll the way down to the beach bar. And as a side note, there is no wait service for drinks or good by the pool or beach. I have never stayed at a resort in Bermuda that did not have wait service in their pool areas. Food was ok. Rooms were adequate. Aside from the 2 roaches we killed in bath room. Do not even think of asking for an early check in. Won't happen... It's 3 pm and that's it. Afraid I will not stay here again. As a side note, the entire staff was wonderful.

Mixed Feelings

The resort as a whole wasn't bad but there are certain items that make me not want to go back. The room was damp & had mold/mildew on the ceiling and in the corners. I had a massage which was really good but the "spa" is nothing but a guest room with massage tables in it. I could hear the guests next door the entire time. The housekeeping...although you paid extra per day per person, the housekeepers are not shy about telling you what time they get off of work. If you want to sleep in, you may not get your room cleaned. Although Bermuda is a British island, there were a lot of Americans on the property and the resort did not have any lively activities during our 4th of July visit. You definitely have to go into the city of Hamilton for any type of nightlife.

Nice Hotel

The hotel was very nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful, but the staggered hours of serving meals was frustrating at times.

Steps & Steps & Steps

Quite pleasant...but the location of the numerous buildings creates the need for many steps, up and down, to reach the rooms and/or the main facility; not a facility for anyone that has impaired mobility ... overall the facilities were well maintained, king bed was most comfortable, lovely pool area, good tennis facility... located near the airport but no noise factor... friendly and helpful staff

Just OK

When they say you get what you pay for....It's true. Very clean, nice staff. The beach was tiny, the pictures are over rated. The cave is small but neat to see. The food was not great so glad we didn't get the meal package. You can eat down the block at Swizzle for less money and the food was great. For the money it was nice. Take the bus and not a cab or rent a scooter. Tom Moore Inn is over rated and very pricey so choose something in Hamilton for that one special dinner.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the bus or rent a scooter. From the airport the cab is $10 with tip. The bus would have been $2.50 to Grotto Bay. Ask the airport to sell you a token it's a 5 min drive to the airport.

so so

The views are pretty and the staff were friendly... however, grotto bay could have been better. Beach is quite small, as is the jacuzzi.... pool wasn't heated. Rooms smelled a bit dingy. Not much to do! Especially in the winter when the weather is so unpredictable and everything seems to close so early... this is problematic all around Bermuda, but at least the Hotel could have supplemented with activities and amenities... overall, enjoyable experience, but prob wont' be going back.

convenient getaway.

Good hotel and good facilities. Very close to the airport allows one more time to enjoy the island. BUT food service VERY SLOW- urgently needs more staff- we waited 45 minutes at the Bar to get 2 salads.

beautiful views!

Great ocean views from anywhere on the resort. Nice architecture - big large window in the main building - makes you want to sit and enjoy the view all day! Employees were great (even sang happy birthday in the restaurant that night), everyone goes out of their way to help you out. Pool is open 7/24 and you are 10 seconds from the ocean and the beach, also it has a very cool "grotto" cave - which you can visit and swim in ... it has incredible turuquoise blue water (makes a great memory shot of your visit)

Great location

Grotto Bay provided a great location as it was close to airport for arrivals and departure as well as St George. Bus line was right across the street which took you anywhere on the island. Staff was friendly and helpful the only negatives were the bar service at hotel was slow and they didn't open pool bar even though the hotel was full. Rooms and views were great and I would definetely look at staying again if returning to Bermuda.
