A good place to go back to

We were delighted with the appearance of the entire resort, from the view to the grounds to the buildings -- outside and in. Our room was just the right size, and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and the balcony a real treat. The beach is right on the property and inviting if not thrilling. We were disappointed that the advertised wi-fi is available only in the main building and costs $5 per half hour. Menu choices are varied and well prepared, but as a vegan I had to make lots of compromises in my diet. The location close to the airport and right at a bus stop makes getting around the island extrememely easy.

Buy a bus pass right away, for as many days as you will be on the island. You'll have unlimited bus and ferry travel at a very reasonable cost.

Early spring break

This was the perfect place to spend a few days with my daughter. Friendly staff (though the wait staff were sometimes abrupt) and beautiful grounds made up for the cool weather.

Quiet getaway

The Grotto Bay Beach Resort provided a comfortable getaway. It was close to the airport, bus routes, and St. Georges. The grounds are beautiful and provided a wonderfully relaxing setting. The only complaint was that the beds were very uncomfortable.

Good value

Though an older property, Grotto Bay is updated and well appointed in a beautiful setting. The service was very good - everyone seemed to know who we were even without introduction and they went out of their way to be helpful. It is about 20 minutes from Hamilton by bus and there is a bus line right outside the property. Get the $12 bus pass, which is also good for the ferry --you'll need it to go to the Dockyard. There are several caves on the property and you can swim in one and if you don't get enough walk up the road to Crystal Cave, where the tour takes you on a floating bridge through the cavern. Spectacular! The food ranged from very good to blah, depending on the dish. I personally would not get a meal plan. The Swizzle Inn is a short walk and, despite the "pubby" atmosphere has fantastic food. A couple of negative reviews I read before going complained about the nearness of the airport (5 minutes) and the hilliness. As for the airport, I didn't even notice it; there are only a dozen or so flights a day in and out and none at night. I liked the convenience. The dumbest criticism is the hills. The entire island is hilly and the hills on the property are, honestly, not much to speak of. They should be no problem unless you have a physical handicap. If you don't like hills go to Kansas. Overall a very good experience and I would heartily recommend Grotto Bay.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Eat at the Swizzle Inn. It is about 100 meters from the property and has great food all around. The food at the resort will get old and has a broad range of quality. Also, consider visiting a grocery store in town and stocking your fridge for snacks and breakfast. Get your coffee from GB, though; it is good!

Everything was great. The rooms were vere nice, the beach and pool were very good with plenty of chairs, towels, umbrellas, etc and a nice bar and grill right there. The staff were all very helpful. I would go back anytime.

Good Value By Bermuda Standards

We mainly stayed on site hopping back and forth between the pool and beach. What is missing here is consistant service. The service you receive is only as good as the individual receiving the respective request. Training (management) is lacking. So... if you happen to make a request of a pleasant staff member, you may get a professional/pleasant response. On the other hand, if the person you made the request of has no personal experience with providing service or has no previous training...good luck receiving 4 star or better service.

Great Time at Grotto Bay!

The beach, pool and bar/restaurants were conveniently located. The room was very nice and clean and the balcony view of the bay was spectacular! Great place for kids and active adults: snorkeling on two off -shore wrecks, a water sports shop to rent snorkel gear, boats, kayaks etc., and two caves on the premises to explore. You could actually swim in one of the caves. Great location! Just a short walk to moped rentals, bus stops, ice cream shop, general store and The Swizzle Inn. About a 10 minute walk to Fantasy and Crystal Caves ( a must see).St George is about a 10 minute bus ride and Hamilton is about a 20 minute bus ride. The Aquarium/Zoo is about a 10 minute ride. Bus service is efficient and air-conditioned. I recommend buying a bus pass which allows you on all busses and ferries. The activities staff were well informed and very helpful. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. It was the best trip that our family has been on so far!
