still good

Have stayed here many times as a pilot on business. First time with my wife. Very friendly staff from porters to Manager. Great views even from the cheap rooms. Interesting grounds - the grottos really make this place special. Short walk to the famous Swizzle Inn. Close to the airport. Easy bus access to St. Georges or Hamilton. Good coffee. Chickens.

Bear to your right after the Swizzle if you want to buy your own at the market. Drink is not cheap here. Get a bus pass and roam around the island with the locals.

Been there, done that...still love it.

The Grotto Bay Beach hotel has been my favorite for years. Perched on a cliff facing the water you can't go wrong for your money. They have an excellent restaurant on premise and the famous Swizzle Inn is only a short walk down the road. At the end of the main drive there are scooter rentals. One is right next to an Esso station that carries wine and some tasty local bakery goods. A private beach, pool, hot tub, tennis court and SCUBA diving facilities make this the ideal getaway. Our last visit was mid November where the temp was in the low 70's during the day with no humidity.

Really nice resort, friendly staff!

Five minutes from the airport ($6.00 by taxi) yet very secluded. Nice beach, 5 star PADI dive center on site. Exceptionally friendly staff, clean and comfortable room. Enjoyed the grounds, well maintained and clean. The breakfast selection was a bit sparse but adequate. We used public transport (buses & ferry) which are cheap, frequent and very easy to get around. We definately want to go again but would probably go a couple of weeks earlier in the year to catch more of the tourist things open.

Pretty Good Stay

The views are great & the rooms are very clean, which is very important to us. The service on behalf of the front desk staff could have been much better though. The staff wasn't the most friendly or outgoing by any means. They should realize that their country is populated by about 90% tourists, therefore guests are going to inquire about a lot of things. They could have been more friendly & more helpful when guiding guests on things to do/how to get from here to there (especially when the concierge takes forever to deal with one couple at a time). The food was decent, $25 for a room service plain pizza though! Beautiful location, but again could have been much more friendly, especially when you experience the rest of the hospitality on the island, which is amazing & a great change when coming from the northeast United States.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Do not waste money on taxis or scooters. Get a bus/ferry pass to get around the island. You will still have to walk a short distance to things, but as opposed to a $20-$30 cab ride, you only pay $26 for a 3 day pass on the bus & ferry for unlimited use.

Very nice facility, great staff

We rented scooters for 2 days and saw very inch of the island. We've visited before and avoided Hamilton, too big, too busy. Went snorkling at Clearwater and Horseshoe beaches. Both lovely. Loved Flatts Village and had a great dinner at Rustico.

Fort St. Catherine's is a great view of the northern part of the Island. St. George is a cool little town with great shopping and restaurants.

Grotto Bay Resort

I traveled with my daughter who is attending med school so we could both have some time to decompress. I found the staff VERY helpful and courteous. Meals were pricy, but good.

Shopping tip: Not Applicable

I would skip Hamilton altogether. I have been to Bermuda four times, and Hamilton is not worth the trip for shopping with Trimminghams and Smiths no longer there. There were some shops in St. Georges that were good, but prices are high for the value of the items. The proximity of the hotel to St. Georges was great.

Okay Resort

The pool bar shuts down at 6PM, not good. In previous visits the pool/bar area was open until 12AM with dancing, dj & karaoke. No night life here. The wireless internet costs $50/week but does not work anywhere but in the hotel lobby. Resort staff was friendly, resort was clean, just very boring.

Not to bad for the price

There is nothing included at this resort. The restaurants were very costly and the food was not so good. All of the water sports cost extra as well. On the up side the rooms were nice and the staff as well as most of the islanders were very friendly.

As the island is not that big, there are a few places near the hotel you can walk to. Other than that the public buses were good to get around the island.
