Perfect for a short trip

It was a great hotel, about as good as you will find from any island but the location was out by itself with nothing around. There was enough to do for a few days but I might look elsewhere if it was a week long vacation. On a quick trip, this is definitely my hotel of choice!

convenient getaway.

Good hotel and good facilities. Very close to the airport allows one more time to enjoy the island. BUT food service VERY SLOW- urgently needs more staff- we waited 45 minutes at the Bar to get 2 salads.

nice place for a short vacation

the place has nice scenery and lots of activities during the day. it is also conviniently located between Hamilton and st.George (short bus ride) However, it gets a bit boring at night as entertainment becomes limited

Dining tip: In Hotel

When you there for Xmas or other holiday, don't go for a holiday "special" menu. The "special" menu would be nothing special and would cost you twice as much as regular dishes

so so

The views are pretty and the staff were friendly... however, grotto bay could have been better. Beach is quite small, as is the jacuzzi.... pool wasn't heated. Rooms smelled a bit dingy. Not much to do! Especially in the winter when the weather is so unpredictable and everything seems to close so early... this is problematic all around Bermuda, but at least the Hotel could have supplemented with activities and amenities... overall, enjoyable experience, but prob wont' be going back.

Great location, great value.

This hotel is a great value for the money in a great location. I when I return to Bermuda, I will certainly return to this hotel. I went to Bermuda and my travel guides told me the best way to see Bermuda is with a bus pass. I was skeptical. After returning, I could not agree more. Grotto Bay is a stop along four major bus routes (1, 3, 10 & 11) and a travel to St. George or Hamilton is a breeze. The hotel restaurant serves a very good breakfast buffet which is very reasonably priced. The room had all of the standard items which one can expect from a good hotel room. Internet service is extra. The television was full of static and had few channels. I did not go to watch television on vacation, but I would like to keep up with the news and sports scores. Hence I docked them on room comfort. When you book, you should know that the staff has a collective bargaining agreement (union) and gratuity is included in your price. Hence, there is no reason, in my opinion, to give any extra tips unless one receives extra special attention from one of the staff members. I did dock the hotel for the staff because I called for a bellhop to come collect my bags since I am already tipping them but no one ever showed up and I carried my bags myself. Other than that, the staff was great, gave good advice and was accessible and accommodating. All in all, I am totally satisfied with my selection of Grotto Bay. It was a good selection and I would definitely return there again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Go eat at Swizzle Inn which is a five minute walk from Grotto Bay for a great little bar/restaurant with free wifi and delicious drink, the rum swizzle. On Friday and Saturday night Swizzle Inn has a really tasty barbecue menu as well.
