Pool party!

We arrived at the Midas Reset to the pounding music of a pool party :( What had we gotten ourselves into?!? But the lady at the front desk explained that it would end at 10:30 . So we walked into town and had a delicious dinner. When we got back, the party was winding down and true to their word, it was quiet after that. This was on a Saturday night and the next two nights were quiet with only the cleaning of frogs at night and the calls of birds during the day. Very walkable to the city center. A peaceful place to relax and a base for seeing the archaeological sites of the area.

Lost my Reservation

Somewhere between agency and the Resort my prepaid reservation was lost, so we showed up and Midas had no record of us. Fortunately, I guess, I had printed out my receipt from agency. The staff was very nice and luckily they had rooms for us, although not the ones we paid for and we had to pack our stuff every night to move room to room. They said they would contact agency and get us a partial refund, but that has not happened yet. Can't figure out how to email agency, so will have to call them, I guess. Given than San Ignacio is an outpost in Belize, the resort was fun, but don't expect the Ritz. The staff were very nice and organized some great tours for us. Pool was murky and uninviting, hot tub was not connected. Excellent fry jacks for breakfast. Try to get into main building, if you want American Style room, although bathrooms still small. Some of "cabanas" are rustic. Hotel is in partial state of renovation.

Midas Resort

This resort is going through some upgrades that will make it one of the finest in the area. Having a resort like this in a relatively new country that is in the tropics gives one the chance to have most of the things we are accustomed to but also to see and mingle with the people who are native to this country. It is close to the downtown area, within a few minutes walk and staff was eager to assist us in finding activities, tours and transportation. Although it is 72 miles from the airport all necessary arrangements were made to assure we arrived and could get back to the airport on time.

Dining tip: In Hotel

The hotel only served breakfast since it was the off season, but it was so much food that we did not need to eat until dinner.

It'sa bed & toilet

Don't know if we just happened to get the only unit that hasn't been upgraded, but this was a $30 rustic Montana cabin at best. Staff was very friendly tho, and we only slept there.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

If you're thinking about driving into Guatemala, study up on it first. It's quite confusing and you have to pay for a number of things. Two people with vehicle around $70. Plan on averaging about 30 miles in an hour due to unpaved sections and frequent speed bumps
