Located in the scenic Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Gaia Riverlodge (formerly Five Sisters Lodge), a choice Eco tourist destination overlooks the spectacular Five Sisters Falls, and also offers spectacular views of and easy access to the surrounding forest with a wide array of bushes and trees, orchids, birds and butterflies.

Gaia Riverlodge ensures easy access to our gorgeous waterfalls either by simply walking down the stairs or by means of Belize's only hydro-powered rain forest tram. Once you arrive at the freshwater pools, the fun begins! You can swim in the clear waters of the river that's just a stone's throw away from your cabana, or relax in the sun on our tiny river-island retreat.

Perhaps best of all, the lodge's central location makes touring Belize easy. Many of Belize's most sought-after attractions, such as the country's Mayan ruins, are just a day trip away. Plus, the area offers a tantalizing array of activities, from zip-lining and cave exploration, to horseback riding on wilderness trails and boating along a local river.

Perfect stay at Gaia

From the moment we arrived, the staff at Gaia all went the extra mile to make out vacation perfect. The hotel is very far off the beaten path, a full hour drive from town on a bumpy dirt road. However, once you get there it's paradise. The rooms are all thatched roofed cabanas, not huge, but are very comfortable and clean. The grounds are gorgeous. The restaurant/ lobby area overlooks the five sisters waterfalls, so it's an absolutely amazing view if you're sitting on the deck to have a drink or a meal. You can walk down to the falls (about 10 minutes down 300 steps) or take the tram. Down by the falls they have wooden lounge chairs and hammocks that you can relax in or you can go for a swim. We spent an afternoon down there. The bartender, Yasser packed us a cooler with a delicious lunch and some beers and it was totally perfect. The food in the restaurant is very good. We ate there three of our four nights. The drinks are also delicious and you can sit in the lobby sipping a drink and play one of the games they have (monopoly, Chinese checkers, chess, etc). The only thing to be aware of is that it is far from town where the tours for Tikal, ATM and some other activities leave from. If you're planning to do Tikal or ATM, you might want to stay in town the night before those. Stay at Gaia if you're doing Caracol and the mountain pine ridge area, as those are much closer by. We rented a car which is really helpful. With the freedom of a car there is plenty to do in mountain pine ridge, relatively close to Gaia, including ruins, waterfalls, caves, pools, horseback riding, misty mountain, and more! Wish we had had more time there, but definitely loved every minute of it. Highly recommended!

Dining tip: Not Applicable

If you stay at Gaia, the only place for a few miles to eat is in the hotel, so if you don't have a car, you have no other option (however, the food is awesome!). If you have a car, you could eat in San Ignacio after a tour ( as its an hour away) or at blacaneux, a hotel down the road.
