Around the corner stands the historic Fort Point Lighthouse at the entrance to the Belize Harbor and adjacent to the Baron Bliss Memorial, which was erected as a monument to the Englishman, Baron Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss. He lived aboard his yacht "Sea King", which was anchored just off the Fort George Point. Although he never set foot on Belizean soil, due to health reasons, he fell in love with the sea, the fishing and the charming qualities of its people. On his death on March 9th, 1926, he bequeathed a legacy of over a million dollars to Belize, the British Honduras, in a "Baron Bliss Trust". The 9th of March later became a public and bank holiday in this country. This Belizean landmark was built in 1927 by talented local craftsman and still retains its beauty, grace and charm. Now, this magnificent four-story colonial style residence in probably the largest classic wooden home still in existence in Belize. Originally built as a family home, this wonderful structure still provides the warmth and comfort reminiscent of the early colonial times of Belize. Spacious verandas at the front of the house allow you to relax and let go amidst the soothing embrace of the Caribbean breezes.

Belize City Hotel
The Great House in Belize City, is a Victorian hotel on what was once a block of large homes, the 16 rooms have the flavor of that time. The rooms also have window air conditioners and ceiling fans.,rooms are large and the veranda balconies have a view of the bay. A 5 minute walk from the hotel is the marina. The hotel is across the street from the Radisson Hotel. These two hotels seem to be the only safe hotels in the city with 24 hour guards watching the grounds. The hotel has free wifi and can include a small stipend for a continental breakfast next door. We were there to fish the many locations near Belize City and it was very good for our needs. The restaurant in the hotel alas is not what one would hope.

A Nice Stay for Belize
Rooms are clean and A/C works. I have never found A/C with remote control in the States, but I love it here. Colonial style. This is Belize. Don't expect the Hyatt. Breakfast is a $5 certificate for next door bakery. NO POOL.

You can eat downstairs at the Smoking Mermaid (expensive) or at the 3 restaurants in the Radisson next door. Also, for geniune Belizian food, walk 200 yards west to a Coca Cola sign on the right. The little shack serves Belizian food cheap. Nice lady.

Colonial style
The hotel is not bad - the rooms are spacious, with a great balcony, and with only a small number of rooms it has a boutique feel to it. Overall, the hotel is in a nice area but perhaps a little pricey. But relative to competitors it holds up well.

Ending of Belize Vacation
We stayed at this hotel at the end of our two week Belize vacation. Location is good. House is very nice. No extra anything (hot tub, restaurant, etc.) but none was listed as present. Lovely view of Caribbean.

Within one half mile is Nerie's Restaurant. Very good Belizean/Caribbean food present at a great price. No ambiance but with food that good, not an issue.

Memorable winter getaway
We enjoyed the guest house experience in contrast to a large hotel. It felt like a home away from home. The staff were attentive to our needs and everyone was extremely friendly. We found the location to be very convenient.

It was very OK
Friendly staff, clean, comfortable room. I was a little disappointed that I had to go elsewhere for breakfast as the restaurant no longer opens in the morning. Very pleasant stay.

The Great House
We had a beautiful room done in the bright colors of the time. The bed was nice and firm. The bathroom was modern even though the room was that of an grand old plantation house. The only thing wrong with the room was that the room safe didn't work.

Good Location to Travel Belize
Very good location as a focal point for traveling around Belize by boat and bus. Kind of noisy around the hotel area, but the staff and rooms are great, very roomy, comfortable and the A/C is a must.

The Celebrity Bar and Grill is a short walk from the Great House Inn, very good food and awesome staff!
