More than you pay for!

The hotel features apartments that face the Caribbean Sea, with a few immediately adjacent to the beach. Each apartment has a kitchen, complete with a working stove, microwave, refrigerator, kitchen utensils and cookware. During the cooler days or nights, one may opt to not have the COLD A/C or ceiling fans on and just open the French doors out to the balcony. While this is convenient, having the A/C off does lead up to some minor condensation at points on the tile floor (turning A/C back on dries it up). The only complaint that was made to management concerned the poor positioning of their wi-fi antenna, as the further away from the beach you were, the weaker the signal (antenna is located above the outside bar). I found that going out on the balcony provided the best signal. PLUSES Comfortable Inexpensive Easy to get to town or beach Usually quiet (only on Wednesdays, when the restaurant has a live band, do you hear some music). MINUSES Wi-Fi strength Second and third floors are up a flight of stairs (not good for anyone incapable of ascending them). Small charge for pick-up at the San Pedro airport ($10US R/T at time of writing).

Such a Bad Idea

Black mold, smelly sheets, loud music, and drug dealers. Now that I have your attention, expand this review and read exactly what the Sunbreeze Suites is really like. First, just so you don't think I'm some over critical snob, you must know that I am an expat that currently lives in Baghdad, so I am very familiar with "lower" living conditions. Well, I somewhat felt at home at the Sunbreeze. If you enjoy being in the heart of San Pedro with the hustle and bustle of the local "developing" people, by all means, go to the Sunbreeze. I had arguably the best room there (107) which looked straight out into the sea and had a door to the pool deck and bar. But, the bar played Reggae music (usually one song on repeat) until 11 or midnight. So loud that it sounded like a party in our room. I would sit out on the porch overlooking the beach (more appropriately the sand by the dock) and local "party suppliers" would walk up and try and sell us cocaine and weed. While some reading this may think that's awesome, it really made the vacation feel dirty. The room, particularly the sheets, smelled like old mold and there was black mold developing in the shower. I understand the whole island environment is hard on living quarters, but for the price they could have done something. And here is where it gets good. I told them I wasn't happy and I found a different hotel. Told them it wasn't personal and I would be happy to pay for the 2 nights we stayed and will be on our way. They didn't even try to rectify the situation, sent someone to our room with a comments card with the early checkout date written in, and proceeded to have a chip on their shoulder about the whole event. Oh, and they refused to refund the other 8 nights I paid for in advance. I thought about keeping the room since I was paying for it and using it as a base camp while in town, but I just didn't want to deal with the establishment anymore and said good riddance. So, in summary, if you really don't care about where you stay, go to Sunbreeze. But if you re looking to relax and not be bothered, spend the little extra cash and go somewhere else. I upgraded to Victoria House and do not regret it.

In the heart of everything

This was our first trip San Pedro and chose this resort. It was the perfect place, it's in the heart of everything. And since we did some snorkeling and went to the Maya Ruins and the Rain Forest the staff arranged all our tours and did all the bookings for us. All we had to do was show up at the end of the pier (which was right out our door) and they picked us up. The Manta Rays was at the pier every morning. They also pick us up and drop up off at the airport. If you choose to bring the fierry boat, no problem there either that dock is only a few pier over and can walk to the resort. You can enjoy food and drinks on the deck looking at the ocean. Perfect spot.

Perfect dive hotel

This hotel is just on the north end of the main drag (Front St) in San Pedro. The location was perfect for us as we were ther to dive every day. The dive shops were only a couple minutes away which made the early mornings easier. Every room has a good view of the water. Ours was on the ground floor literally right on the beach and adjoined the pool area and Jamaican restaurant (which was outstanding). It was nice to have the full kitchen too. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in town.

My wife and I

Everything was wonderful except we first had a room with a problem sound. It came from a water pump and made a noise that kept us awake. After a few days we moved rooms. The staff was wonderful and the place quite nice. Rooms are clean and the view off the patio very nice. We loved the kitchen facilities and the location.
