Killer location / "good enough" everything else
If you need to be in the center of Leuven, close to the MANY buildings of the Catholic University, then this hotel is in a fantastic location. Even though the Mercure building is modern (looks to be circa 1985-ish architecture) it's smack-dab in the heart of the medieval part of the city. Had a single room that had cleary be used pretty hard (carpet very stained, furnishings a little nicked up). But it was clean overall, very well tended daily by house-keeping and the front desk staff was excellent. Plus they offer free wifi in the lobby bar, along with some very nice Belgian beers on tap (nice combo!). We prepaid to get the lowest price, so we did not get the "breakfast included" deal. At 18 Euro a shot to add the buffet breakfast, we felt grabbing a to-go coffee and pastry elsewhere was a much better deal. 10-15 min walk to the Lueven train station, which is a fine jumping off point for all the major delights of Belgium (1 hr train to Ghent or Anterwerp, 1.5 hr to Bruge, 20-30 min to Brussels).

Short walk from hotel
Great beer is Belgium's well-known specialty. But a great latte is not easy to find. Check out "Monty Coffee" which is in the plaza shared by the Mercure hotel. Look for the little monkey logo...real Italian espresso, prepared correctly!
