Ghent River Hotel is situated on the right bank of the Leie, which has beaconed the Ghent boarder between the 11th and 15th century. Thanks to the ancient pier, Ghent River Hotel is the only hotel that can be reached by boat. The site encompasses 2 buildings: a renaissance house, dated 1518 and a rice-mill built on a burnt down sugar refinery, dated 1857. The building also served as a cotton spinning-mill (1873), a warehouse (1879) and a steam actuated bakery (1892). The latter expanded several times until 1909. In front of the hotel you will come across a small square which is served as thread (yarn) market in the Middle Ages and the 19th century. Next to the hotel you can observe one of the typical medieval "waterstraatjes". After a few minutes walk, you meet the 'vrijdagsmarkt' with the statue of Jacob van Artevelde (The 'vrijdagsmarkt', one of the biggest squares in Ghent, lies only a couple of meters away and is the home of the famous statue of Jacob Van Artevelde. Breakfast is excluded from the rate and 20,00 euros per person per day

Our room overlooked the canal, very pleasant. Just 20 metres from the Vrijdagmarkt square, so the location is excellent.

Ghent River Hotel, October, 2009

I generally like the hotel. Small and well situated in the center of Gent. My room was small, but still big compared to some of the NYC hotel rooms I have tried. The breakfast was included. If I had paid for the breakfast I would have been disappointed about the quality, but when included in the competitive price (117USD / 8 Euro), I found it okay. On the bad side: 5Euro for 1h of Internet, 20Euro for 24h! Over all: a thumbs up, and for the price I would likely go there again. But it puzzles me, how this hotel can have 4*.

Perfect position in Ghent - easy

Das Hotel liegt sehr günstig am

Das Hotel liegt sehr günstig am Rande der Altstadt, die grössten Teile des Hotels gehören zu einem schon länger nicht mehr renovierten Altbau. Im Hotelzimmer konnte daher eine interessante Holzdeckenkonstruktion aus dem Mittelalter bewundert werden. Das Hotel verlangt Zusatzgebühren, falls die übliche Abreisezeit von 11:30 überschritten wird (viertelstündlich steigend) . p.s. Für Gent empfiehlt sich im Sommer ganz dringend jede Menge Insektenspray ...
