Great staff and decor, small room

I was pleased to have a room ready even though I arrived very early, and was given a lovely room over the rear garden courtyard. The room was very small, but it was the furniture placement that made it cramped. With the writing desk only 7 inches from the foot of the bed, I had to turn sideways and scoot around the end of the bed to reach the closet for my clothes. If the desk had been placed where the tv was, and the tv mounted on the wall, it would have been more efficient and comfortable. In spite of the lack of street noise, I did not sleep well because the tv from the next room kept me awake. I could also hear it in the hallway when passing the neighboring room. I am a light sleeper, but most people would probably sleep here with no problem. Other than that, this hotel is beautifully decorated, very clean and has friendly and helpful staff. My bathroom had a long, deep tub, hand held shower, hair dryer, large counter around the sink and plenty of mirrors. Soap and shampoo are provided, along with a pair of slippers and bathrobe. At the quick check in, I was told about the weekend special of discounted breakfast buffet, so I reserved that for the next morning at 19.60 euros. The buffet was ample, including juice, fruit, cappucino, tea, pastries, cereal, milk, breads, sausages, water, etc. There are some nearby restaurants where I ate other meals and a grocery store to purchase fresh croissants and snacks or drinks on Lombard street, since the hotel restaurant was expensive. The room has no coffee or tea-making facilities, and no microwave, but a minibar with a fridge. The room safe was large enough to hold my entire purse. My room was warm enough in early Spring, the first week of April, without turning on the heat and the window could open if I needed cooling. Checkout was swift. The location away from the bustle of crowds and noise is perfect. It is about a mile and a half from the Grand Place, easily accessable for one who walks a lot or uses the metro. The elegant exterior is lovely and well maintained. The front desk told me about getting a metro ticket good for ten rides, which was better than a ticket with a two or one day limit. There are big bowls of fruit in the lobby and by the elevator. Their sauna needed to be warmed up 10 minutes ahead by calling the front desk, and was in the same location as the fitness center, near the lobby. Lots of big fluffy towels, a tanning bed and a separate mens and womens shower and toilet. There was a treadmill, stairmaster and stationary bike and tv in the fitness center. The area around the hotel was a good neighborhood to walk in, with some fenced parks and other businesses.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Lombard street has a grocer with good croissants and water/juice and is near busses and the metro stop--- turn right out of the hotel and walk a block or two to reach Lombard, then turn left, toward Trone. Two blocks the opposite way from the grocer on the right is a pharmacy/drug store, look for a cross on the sign over the street. On the way, either on the same street as the hotel or in the same vicinity, you will see the "Family ---?" Cafe, with outdoor and indoor dining. Very reasonable prices with delicious hot mini-quiche and soups, cold sandwiches and wraps, croissants, bottled juice water and pastries. Take out or eat in. Closes early. For a good reliable taxi from the Brussels airport, also called Zaventem airport, look for the black Mercedes taxi with the label "AutoLux" on the side (door) mirrors, it costs 40 euros one way. If you reserve them to go back to the airport, the return trip is discounted.

Stanhope

Hotel is not in the main Palace/tourist area, but is very convenient (2 short blocks) from Trone Metro stop. Rooms are clean and comfortable. On getting there early, was offered use of room if i wanted to pay 50% of a night's price. Also offered all sorts of upgrades for additional fees. Breakfast is very expensive.

Friendly and courteous staff

The staff was very friendly and courteous. The location of the hotel was excellent, especially if you need to be close to the EU buildings. There are few nearby restaurants if you do not want to use their restaurant. Within few minute walk to the Metro. Quiet area, although there was construction on the other side which made it bit noisy for guests in that part of the hotel. Very clean.

Beautiful hotel, very conveniently

Beautiful hotel, very conveniently located near EU buildings, but not too far from centre either. Got really good price at hotelclub.com. I had a quiet room, which I find is unusual in Brussels. Some minor problems: air con couldn't be totally switched of, bit noisy in the night (annoying in otherwise quiet room); a little piece was broken off the shower; toilet roll holder came off the wall (last two especially not expected in a five star hotel). However, very good experience overall, will go back if similar price is available.
