Not a 4 star hotel

The pictures lie, it is not that pretty. The wallpaper is peeling and there are water stains all over. The rooms are hot and one window wouldn't open. The worst part was the window to the fire escape couldn't be opened and we were on the 5th floor! They find all sorts of ways to charge you extra. They do not advertise that they charge you for parking but they charged me 21 euros and that parking garage is very difficult. Breakfast is about 20 euros per person and we didn't get it because that is a ridiculous price! Their idea of giving us 2 beds was 2 beds that were placed together and couldn't be moved. The free internet kicks you off after about 1/2 an hour of using skype and you keep having to enter new codes. If you're ok paying the price for a 2 star hotel it would be fine. If I had been expecting a 2 star I'd have no complaints but really, this is nothing near a 4 star. Expect to be handed a bunch of extra fees and expect to not be made more comfortable unless you are willing to pay a bunch extra for it. The best thing I can say is that it is in a good location. However, if you can find a place to stay in Brugge it is a much nicer place.

Great Value and Beautiful

I had been staying in a rather gross hotel in Leuven for the past week at a similar price so when I arrived in at Izan Avenue Lousie Hotel I had pretty low expectations. When I walked into the hotel my jaw dropped. The hotel was gorgeous. I thought for sure that there had been a mistake. There was no way that such a lovely and comfortable hotel was so reasonably priced. The only two minor complaint that I could make is that the wifi was a little slow in my room.

Not a Four Star Hotel as Advertised

The staff was extremely rude and not very helpful. We needed some Tylenol and the only way you can get it is at a pharmacy. They sent us on a wild goose chase looking for a pharmacy even when they knew they were all closed at 9:00 pm. We wondered around in some not so good parts of town for over 45 minutes before we gave up. Then when we got back to the hotel, another customer was at the desk and told them he drove a car there, their response was "Our parking is full." He asked what he was supposed to do and they told him, "that they didn't drive the car there and he would need to figure that out". I do not call that four star service. I know that the price should have clued me in, however I thought that the ratings still meant something. The room looked nothing like the pictures. It was dirty, you had to walk up a dirty floor stained carpet up a winding stairwell or get in an elevator cart that could only hold two people facing each other. You had to step up over 2 1/2 feet to get into the shower, so this would not work for anyone elderly or with knee problems. You could feel every spring in the bed and you had a 70's style blanket that was worn through. A half a pillow was provided, at least that is how I would explain it. It was the usual length of a standard pillow, however you had to fold it to fit your head on it. The window did not lock shut and it was against a metal fire escape on the side of the building. They did provide a wooden stick to prevent the window from being able to be slid open. The location is in a side alley and the neighborhood before it is really nice, however one block over starts to get a little sketchy and I would not have felt comfortable in the location if I would have been alone. There is some really high end shopping district a couple of blocks up from the neighborhood. So, like any town the neighborhood can change for better or worse depending on the location.

Shopping tip: Long walk from hotel

It is a long ways from downtown and if you are going to go there to go sight seeing, I would not recommend this hotel unless you want to figure out the tram and bus schedules to get you there.

A perfect location /hotel

This is a lovely hotel with a family atmosphere and an excellent location . The rooms were spacious and light and the bathrooms elegant and deligthful although the bath is really high and migth challenge older guests !! Staff were very helpful . Breakfast far too expensive so we found a lovely little place in Place St Stephanie just down the road - EIKX - I think it is called - 2 euros for a continental breakfast . Altogether a lovely experience - I would wilingly stay there again

Good location

Good location near Louisenlaan. Inexpensive rooms on first floor a bit noisy, but ok. Many customers seem to be business travellers who don't care too much about expenses; therefore breakfast buffet and internet access in the room are overpriced (go to lobby for free access - speed is ok). You'll find excellent value alternatives within walking distance (rue du Bailli - Baljuwstraat) or just around the corner in Livornostraat.
