GOOD FOR THE PRICE

I did enjoy my stay. the staff was friendly and helpful, room was clean, bed was firm, I prefer soft. Overall it was a good place and okay location. It was a 10-15 minute walk to the Grand Place. I couldnt get the air condition to turn on so we opened a window; nice breeze but a lil bit of noise. Brussels doesnt really sleep. Also the shower was strange lol. The tub was very very narrow and long and the curtain doesnt cover all the way across. And the position of the shower head is dead center. But the breakfast was nice, they had a good spread of bacon, eggs, sausage, toast, some sort of danish and the freshest OJ yum!

Good Location

The Hotel is excellent, the room was very big and comfortable. The breakfast was adequate. I was happy with the location I dont mind a walk and you have to consider price. We saw all the major attractions easily. I have never met staff that cared less, very unhelpful, they where all hopeless. Despite the fact the Hotel is great I would never stay there again because of the staff.

See the Atomium, it is amazing. The Grand Place and Manneken Pis are not really a very long walk and a great part of Brussels history.

Solid value hotel

Excellent stay with friendly staff. Very short walk to Grand Place. Gare du Midi (Zuid) is 3 blocks away so arriving from the airport by train is convenient and made a day trip to Paris on the Thalys easy as well. Neighborhood is not prime, but always felt safe. Would stay here next time.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

The hotel was hard to find from the subway. However, the hotel is not too far from the Midi, if you take a train to or fly into Brussels. When you come out under the overpass, make a right, and walk straight down the sidewalk beside the over pass and cross the street. You should see the hotel on your left. Note: If you have a lot of luggage, it will be better to take a cab due to the stones on the way to the hotel are rough on luggage. The ladies at the front desk are very helpful. However, the gentleman at the desk seemed to not be very customer friendly. Breakfast at the hotel was good and a good selection to choose from. The room was a pretty good size compared to other rooms in Europe. A refrigerator was provided, but no microwave. Also, it took us a day to get an iron without an ironing board. Lastly, the room did have AC and it worked. The way the tub\shower is situated in the bathroom made it very difficult from trying to keep the floor dry. Also, the shower curtain did very little to prevent the floor from getting wet. It seemed like the more we turned the showerhead the worst the floor got wet. Do expect to see maybe one channel in english on the television. Also, it is not CNN or a news channel. The television kept asking for a card to view many channels that you would expect to be available. Lastly, we asked the hotel about the card and they indicated that the channels were not available. When the front desk was asked if they had a converter, they indicated that they did not have one. However, when we got ready to check out, I asked for a screwdriver and noticed converters in the drawer. The hotel is in good walking distance of all the major sites. Also, the metro is not too far away. A store and a laundrymat are across the street from the hotel. Also, there are restaurants near by, as well as a supermarket around the corner. Tour groups will pick you up from the hotel. However, they drop you off down the road from the hotel.

Pleasant Experience

Our stay in Brussels was the final leg in our trip that started in Paris and also included Bruges. The Floris Avenue Hotel presented the most comfortable of the rooms, of the 3 hotels in which we stayed. The location of the hotel is a little off the beaten path, but that is actually a positive aspect in traveling for my partner and me -- It allows one to explore parts of the city that are less crowded, less commercialized, and generally quieter. At the same time, while off the beaten path, it is still very accessible. (Train-wise, it is closer to the Brussels Zuid station than the Central station.) The only real problem was really more of an annoyance than a problem -- there was just not enough shower curtain to enclose the entire tub, which resulted in a significant amount of water on the bathroom floor after showering. The complimentary breakfast was okay, but not the best of our trip -- it would definitely have benefitted from a wider bread selection and fresh fruit. The ubiquitous cucumber slices & pale, pale tomatoes are nearly indigestible, though it may just be my American palate that objects. We traveled in December 2010 - though cold outside, the hotel was warm and comfortable. I would strongly recommend this hotel as a good value!

The location was an easy, flat

The location was an easy, flat walk from the Midi train station. The room was very spacious. There was no tea or coffee making but there was a mini bar and fridge in the room. The breakfast selection was limited but OK. The general area south of the hotel seemed a little seedy, although to the north wasn't much better. Buy your drinks at the mini mart across the road, not from the mini bar, and you will save a lot of money.
