Best of Barbados

Wonderful hotel - location is perfect (20 min to Bridgetown and 10 to Holetown) with a bus stop right out front. We took the bus during the day into Bridgetown (can't beat $1 fare) and felt safe. The hotel staff are fabulous - nothing is too big of a request and they were so helpful as this was our first time to the island and their advice helped us plan our days. They helped arrange island tours, sunset cruise, etc. The beaches are beautiful and the reef provided fun daily snorkeling (saw plenty of fish and even a sea turtle). Not too crowded so we had plenty of options for seating by pools/beach. Rooms were larger than I expected with a beautiful ocean view and comfortable bed. Be sure to try Daphne's (restaurant next door) for delicious dinner. Loved it and will hopefully be back!

Reasonable Beachside Resort

We stayed at the Tamarind Resort for seven nights in August 2014. Pros - The amazing beach! We loved the beach at Tamarind. The left side of the beach is reserved for swimming. The water is clear, calm and very relaxing. To the right there is an area for snorkeling. The coral reef starts only a meter or two into the water and there are lots of amazing fish right there. This beach was fantastic! - The water sports - A lot of the water sports are free. You can borrow snorkels, go water skiing, wake boarding, ride on the tubes, the banana, paddle boarding and more. It was pretty easy to make a booking for the following day for all of the water sports. - Happy Hour(s) - There are two happy hours a day! From 11.30am - 12.30pm and 4.30pm - 5.30pm there is a Happy Hour menu and the drinks are really cheap. Some cocktails are 8 Barbados Dollars, and beers and less than half their normal price. Drinks are well priced at the hotel during normal hours as well. - Pools - There are three pools. One called the "Rilaks" pool, which has a bar right next to it (not swim up). This pool isn't normally too busy and is in a good spot right near the beach. The second pool is for adults only, and was a bit enclosed, without a view of the beach. This pool was empty most of the time. The one time we went there we had it to ourselves, until some kids came and got in! The third pool is the "Northside" pool, which was very family friendly. This pool also has a nice view of the beach and has a bar close by. - We stayed in a ground floor ocean view room and one night at 1am it sounded like someone was trying to break in. To our surprise there was a massive turtle walking away from our door. Yep - a turtle was a lost and tried to get into our room. We got such a close up view of this amazing animal. It was such a highlight. The staff came and helped her find her way back to the water. Cons - The bed was REALLY short. I am only 5 foot 3 and my feet reached the end. My husband is tall so this was uncomfortable for him. When we checked out they said they had some kind of extension they can add to the bed, but I'm not sure how this would have worked. - The pools close at 6pm. The sun in Barbados sets about 6-6.30pm and at about this time the pools all close. They don't open until after 9am in the morning. It felt really restricting not being able to swim a bit later than sunset. - We ordered pizza from room service at a cost of $74 Barbados dollars ($37 USD). It was the equivalent of a $5 frozen pizza from the supermarket. It was seriously disappointing, and for this reason we didn't try the restaurant at the hotel as we assumed that the same kitchen would be making the food. - The rooms were ok, but felt a bit run down and a little dated. We had a hire car, which we found essential, especially to expand our dining options. Most restaurants/local eateries nearby were average or very expensive. Having a car meant we got to see a lot of Barbados and also eat nice food for a reasonable price. We probably wouldn't stay here again, for the reasons listed above.

Definitely hire a car for your stay in Barbados. The reasonable and decent dining options can be difficult to find, but with a car you will have a lot more options. Also having a GPS is invaluable.

Amazing Honeymoon!

We had a great honeymoon experience! The entire staff was friendly and welcomed us with a celebratory bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries (complimentary). They also were able to assist us with any questions we had and navigating the island. The room was clean, comfortable with a wonderful view. The food, drinks, etc were delicious and the beach/pool were fabulous!

Great last-minute locale to get away and relax...

I literally had to get away on doctor's orders for some sun and relaxation, and the Tamarind was perfect — beautiful ocean-front spot with clear waters and sunner skies — and just steps from the beach.

There's a pretty inexpensive convenient mart across the street, if you're looking for beer or wine to put in your room fridge, or a quick snack.

Family Hotel - Not for couples

Hotel was nice. Would not call it a 5-star hotel, just your average island hotel. Staff was very nice and polite. However, the noise was the biggest turnoff of this hotel. Kids were consistantly running up and down the hallways screaming and the sound came piercing through the walls. I think it should advertise as a family hotel and that those looking for relaxation, piece and tranquillity should find an adult only hotel. We poltely asked the staff to talk to the patrons to see if they could keep the noise down. They offered to move us to a room that the view was not nearly as nice as ours and we did decline. However, the noise was endless. From 6:30am to 10:00pm it was non-stop screaming and yelling of children. I think the parents were on vacation from watching their kids and focused on tuning the kids out with alcoholic drinks. Will not recommend to friends.

St Lawrence Gap had the best selection of food and entertainment. Holetown had highend shopping and good quality resturants as well. Bridgetown is a cheap trinket market that had some history, but a definately not character.

Excellent boutique hotel

The hotel is beautifully kept and the rooms are amazing, clean and comfortable. We stayed in the ocean view junior suite and that was definitely a perfect choice. The sunset from the room was phenomenal. All the water sports are included and that was fun. The hotel staff were very friendly and warm. The location is also convenient to all the west coast has to offer. I woul definitely stay there again upon our return to Barbados.

Fantastic stay, would love to return

Loved our stay. Room was tucked into a courtyard overlooking the pool, but we still had a view of the ocean. Steps from the beach. Property had great areas for lounging, comfortable chairs in grassy areas, near the pool, and on the beach. Attentive staff, helpful. Clean all around, and rooms were spacious and clean. Loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat.
