First International Vacation
The resort has everything you need for a wonderful family or couple get away. My husband and I rarely left the resort to venture out; we were conent just lounging by the pools and on the beach. The staff is extremely accomodating and friendly; everyone you pass while wondering around says hello and asks how your day is going. The spa has excellent services with top notch professionals and the grounds are beautiful with foilage at every turn. My husband and I had originally planned on exploring the island and while we did visit Harrison's Cave, take a fishing trip, and a catamaran cruise at sunset we spent the rest of week relaxing. I felt 100 % safe at this resort by myself while my husband was on a fishing trip. I would recommend this resort to everyone looking for a relaxing caribbean vacation.

For first time visitors coming from the United States I would NOT recommend a rental car. In Barbados you drive on the right hand side of the car and the left hand side of the road (the exact opposite of the US). The roads are not clearly labeled so it's very difficult to follow the maps. The locals stated that nearly all car accidents on the island are a result of tourist from the USA. At the Crane there are several trips that offer free shuttle to the destination via bus (ex. Jammin' Cruise and Bridgetown).

Beautiful resort, yet poor service and very remote
Although the resort is beautiful, the service ruined our experience. Dinner reservations and food options were extremely limited at best and food and service was far below average. We do not recommend and would not go back. Stay on the west side where there is activity and more options for food and better service.

Beautiful Setting - Small Changes Would Help Make it Perfect!
The setting, view and grounds are beautiful. We've been to Barbados before but the Crane was a very different experience from what we've experienced previously. Some of the amenities are just lovely - full kitchens, plunge pools, many pools and extraordinary views make this a special place. Unfortunately, little things somewhat ruined the experience. The biggest by far is the limited availability of food - only one place is open for breakfast and it is an expensive and disappointing buffet. Everything pre-prepared was cold (even scrambled eggs)- however, my husband did get a lovely omelette at the omelette station. I can't understand why they wouldn't open up the Carriage House for breakfast. Same for lunch - the Carriage House and the Main restaurant are open - that's it. The entire time we were there, I saw guests searching for another option. Only drinks are available on the beach and you have to travel all the way back up to the resort to eat lunch. Why not offer snacks, sandwiches or a bbq on the beach??? Also - why not offer waitress service around the pools? We've been to inexpensive all-inclusive resorts where they manage to provide all of these things. Towels are treated like gold - seems strange to be limited to one towel per person in a place where you are paying a small fortune a night for a room! The air-conditioner in our unit barely worked - but we enjoyed the lovely warm breeze instead. Mattress needed replacing. We arrived on 12/27 and the spa was completely booked until 1/4. We were disappointed but should have booked prior to our arrival. Overall- I think that the resort is more geared towards the time-share owners rather than hotel guests. That may explain some of the issues mentioned above. Overall it is a lovely place but with some changes - it could be amazing!

Book restaurants before you arrive on vacation. Barbardos has fabulous food but we were stuck with either very early or very late dinner reservations at the best places. Pisces had a very romantic setting with great food!

Beautiful Resort
Friendly, helpful and gracous staff and well kept grounds. The room was comfortable and spacious. The resort is quiet - not a party destination which was fine with us. We would stay with the Crane again.

Our stay at the Crane
Our experience was close to perfect. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable about everything on the island. Our only down side was that we had booked our room specifically for the private pool and it only worked for the first 3 out of 8 days.

Stunning Resort
The Crane in Barbados was absolutely beautiful!!! The grounds were spectacular and the views for the cliff were stunning. The staff was super friendly and so welcoming. The resort itself has everything that you would need including four great restaurants, a general store, a jewelry store, a clothing store, a gym, a spa, the rooms have free washer and dryers, and the kitchens in the rooms come with all the amenities you could need. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it especially if you are planning to visit Barbados.

PAUL NEW HILTON FAN
Strained at the Crane
Let's just start by saying this was an adventure. I booked my 25th anniversary surprise gift for my wife thru or*****Sunday. When we got to Barbados, pre-paid transport the the Crane was supplied by Andy's taxi svc, a 1985 Toyota camry with no a/c, dressed out in rasta red-black-green. Upon arrival to the Crane, the bellmen just stood and stared at this spectacle and did not offer to help. The reception desk area was attended by well dressed staff that were very helpful. The only problem was that all public areas of this resort have NO A/C. After a 5 hr long flight, enjoying Sanford and Son transport to the hotel, it bothered me that there was no a/c. Not to mention how I watched my wife hyperventalating...They promptly told us that our room wasn't ready. And promptly showed us to the 1887 Bar. A complimentary rum punch awaited. [...]at the bar was the brightest light of the entire resort. After about 2hrs I went to check on the status of the room, they had forgotten that we were there, having had the room ready about 1hr earlier. We went to the room, a large 1bedroom, ocean view about 1600 square feet in size. The room was cool, but not overly cool.We at this point decided to explore the grounds. At first glimpse we found the pools dirty, you couldnt see the bottoms of any of them. The grounds had gargage, broken light fixtures, empty bottles, dirty towels abounding. Dinner that night was at Zen, the zagat rated restaurant. The food was POOR at best. The drinks warm and not well made. Zen appears to feel that adding sugar to everything makes it taste better.Upon going back to the room, since the room is not very airtight, andthe a/c not very efficient, the room was very damp, almost wet. The bed, though mahogany, was nothing more that a mattress on top of a slab of plywood... very hard and uncomfortable.Day 2- monday. We awoke to a partly sunny day, with a large chance of a tropical depression. It rained...We had the chance to look at the facitly. The resort was dirty. The elevator to the beach was dirty. The beach- supposed top 10 in the world- was dirty. The staff made no attempt to clean anything. The day ended just as sunday had. Rain, no a/c, wet room. Mildew smell was overpowering.TuesdayWe were advised that if we wanted more people that we should try the "boat yard". A taxi ride later, we were there. We were the only people there. A beach bar, the day after crop-over, good weather, and no people, just disgusting sugared drinks....Then came Paradise..... while on the beach I saw off in the distance a large hotel looming... THE HILTON. We decided to walk about 2 miles to this haven. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!! It was new, clean, perfect pools, perfect beach, tiki-bar. I BOOKED A SUITE ON THE SPOT. WENT BACK TO THE CRANE WENT TO THE HILTON. We were there from tuesday until having to leave- kicking and screaming- on friday.I/we do not complain. But to spend as much as we did, I did think that the Crane TOTALLY MISREPRESENTED the condition and status of their resort. The HILTON was about the same cost but NEW AND CLEAN.I will go back to Barbados, I will only consider the HILTON. This was as close to paradise as one can get.
