superb beach in January
Dover Beach Hotel is a well located hotel in Lawrence Gap. The beach is immediately accessible from the hotel and the ocean water is superbly clean and warm in the middle of January. The hotel is clean, spacious and comfortable. People working for the hotel were kind and spontaneous for their service work. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel for those who are looking for a 3 star level hotel worth for the money.

The merchants and stores along t Gap/strip are OVERPRICED beware..take t shuttle or bus into Bridgetown where prices are much reasonable.. Also get a calling card at the grocery store to make any international calls, way cheaper than the hotel phone. Becareful about extra tipping, most restaurants automatically add a service fee which is a gratuity charge ( regardless of party size) we were unknowingly tipping 20% extra when they were already adding 10% to t bill. The island is pretty safe so dont waste money on cabs when you can take a shuttle or bus around. Oistins Bay is the spot for friday night dining and entertainment, if you are into snapper fish they always seem to be out of the small ones and you may end up having to buy the large one for about $40 (BBD). If you pay in US dollars at restaurants, becareful as most don't convert to 2 BBD to 1 US dollars, they convert at 1.95 or 1.98 to 1 US dollar. Beautiful, gorgeous beaches a must..

Rest for my head
AT first iwas given an upgrade that felt like a downgrade, on arrival the staff were more tired than me and i travelled on a late flight. But the saving grace was that we were allowed a late check out at no extra cost, the only plus of the stay.

The beach was beautiful as was the pool area. The hotel was built in 1977 and the rooms showed some age. The room was simple but nice with a fridge, stove, microwave ect.

The hotel needs to get with the times
The stay was overall enjoyable, lots to do, see eat and enjoy. However my intial experience was a bit disappointing. I called the hotel the night before to confirm my reservation, as well as to indicate when i would arrive to their establishment as i had a very early flight. I was promptly advised that they were fully booked, check in is @ 4pm and there is nothing they can do. Thank god i rented a vehicle so i was able to move around with my luggage, otherwise i would have had to sit around at least 6 hrs. If i had an alternative i would have requested my money back and find another hotel. Besides my incident when i finally got to check in and take a rest i was able to enjoy the rest of my 4 day trip

My time at Dover Beach Hotel
My time at Dover Beach Hotel was excellent. The room was comfortable, clean and private which i enjoyed. The staff was excellent and very professional and helpful. The location was also nice, it was in walking distance to night life and not far from town. I would recommend this hotel to friends who would like to visit the island.

Short walk from hotel
A short distance from the hotel was a place called Scotty's. They had the best bajan food for the price and was in proximity to the hotel. The night life was also great. On new years eve i went to reggae lounge. the music and atmosphere made for a wonderful evening and drink prices were not bad either.

Loved Barbados!
We really enjoyed our trip to Barbados and our stay at Dover Beach. The staff at the hotel, esp. [...], were absolutely wonderful. This was our first visit to Barbados and we loved it. The hotel was located in a wonderful place, pleasant stroll to the shopping and "night life" of St.Lawrence Gap, but pretty quiet at night. It has a beautiful veranda which is great for watching the sunset (Don't miss that each evening.)We did some snorkeling, including snorkeled in the area where the turtles are, Best of Barbados tour, and a catamaran ride. The Best of Barbados tour was awesome, as was the catamaran ride.If I had to say anything bad, it's that the corridors are very noisy, so if someone arrives late after an evening of Barbados fun, the noise carries and echoes very badly. The restaurant in the hotel was pricey and not that good of a value, but food was decent. Another minor disappointment was that they would not serve a glass of wine from the bar (they were out of the "house wine" all week?!?), they would only sell it by the bottle.

Money-saving tip:
Short drive from hotel
The Oisten's Fish Fry is a must, and you can get a huge plate of delicious food (fresh caught fish and all the Barbados fare) for about $10 USD. It does require a taxi ride, but get together with some others from the hotel and you can get there and back quite cheaply.

Great value!
I'd rate the hotel a 3.0 - 3.5 star out of 5. The room was average and had beds, a small television, air conditioned (Big PLUS HERE compared to other hotels nearby), a small kitchen and a large bathroom. The staff was polite and there was a restaurant for simple meals and drink(good dining - go elsewhere) on site as well as an activities guide who was helpful. The best part about it - located on the beautiful light sand and turqouise water beach. Second best - convenient to the Gap for dining and nightlife. For the deal we got - I would go again and stay there.

Better the second time around
This was my 2nd visit to this hotel and it was better. I was more comfortable with my surroundings as a single female traveling alone.I enjoyed TG's the onsite bar/restaurant. Food was great but the happy hour was even better. The access to nearby beaches and the nightlife is always a definite plus.
