Riu - Paradise Island

We found this resort very average for the price. The rooms were adequate, but poor A/C, patio, TV, etc. The food was not nearly as good as what we expected and the staff was also poor. We typically had to wait at least ten minutes for a drink at the lobby and pool bars and there was rarely a waiter or waitress at either. We felt it was fair for the price, but would not stay here again.

RIU Paradise Island Week Long Getaway

Our stay at the RIU Paradise Island was worth every dollar spent. From location, activities, food, room, staff, and value it doesn't get much better. Staff was attentive and bartenders were masters of their craft. The food offered outstanding variety. If you are looking for a relaxing escape at an all-inclusive resort you cannot go wrong with RIU Paradise Island. Only improvements would be for a more efficient dinner reservation system for the specialty restaurants and expanded pool area. From my understanding the property was originally owned by Sheraton, but bought out by RIU about a decade ago; so it may not have the breath-taking "appearance" of some of it's sister RIUs. Great trip.

Make sure you clarify upon arrival the dinner reservation policy. They may try and say you can make two reservations for every 4 days. We stayed 8 days but they tried to say since we were leaving on the 8th that it did not count as a day towards our specialty reservations. Just make sure to clarify.

Great Location

This was an average as expected stay. I have stayed at Riu palace in Jamaican and Dominican Republic which I found better in all aspects. It is in a great location, right next to Atlantis, the food and drinks are decent, room was clean, staff was friendly and overall a good value, nothing extra special stood out.

NOT A 4 STAR RESORT!!! RATING SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REEVALUATED

Enjoyed my trip only because I was there with my 2 sons, ages 6 and 7. Several things that I did not enjoy about my stay at the RIU. ROOM--We were on the 8th floor and the carpet was damp--from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. The toilet seat was broken. There was paint coming off in the room at various places. The "junior suite" that we paid for was nothing other than a regular room with 2 extra chairs crammed in there. There was nothing additional that made it a "junior suite." When I went down to the front desk I was told that the only other rooms they had were "suites" and those only came with king beds. FOOD--Mediocre is the word I would use. There was nothing that sticks out in my mind as great enough to mention special. Maybe the omlette station. That was decent. Everything else seemed to be somewhat bland, just nothing exciting. POOL--too small for size of the hotel, but my boys sure were thrilled with being able to swim up to the bar and get a coke!!! BEACH--Wonderful!! Had a great time on the beach. OVERALL--DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE THOUSANDS SPENT. WOULD NOT RETURN TO THIS RESORT IN THE BAHAMAS AND BASED ON THIS STAY IM NOT SURE I WOULD STAY AT ANY OTHER RIU RESORTS ELSEWHERE.

Week long Bahamas stay!

After lots of research we decided to go ahead with a week long stay at the RIU BAHAMAS. Other reviews read prior to booking rated this hotel at both ends of the spectrum. All the negatives and positives expressed in the other reviews are accurate. It all depends on where you set your expectations and your ability to deal with small hitches that really aren't so bad that they immediately ruin your vacation. Read all the reviews and then decide if those are things that you are willing to deal with possibly happening. Is this a 5 star hotel? Absolutely not. Somewhere around 3.5 would be a better measure. The bottom line is the water/beach were beautiful, the food was above average and there are places to explore in the evenings like Atlantis and Marina Village. As a whole the staff were very friendly and accomodating. I felt safe at all times and it was nice being in an English (as opoosed to mexico) speaking country with an equivalent currency rate . I would stay at the RIU BAHAMAS again.

The buffet is themed almost every night and was better than the a la carte restaurants. Don't buy souvenirs at the hotel gift shops. The local stores across from the Marina Village have the same items 30% cheaper. Atlantis is free after 6pm. It worth the $125 to spend the day at the Atlantis waterpark too.

Not Great

Rooms are damp and musty, food options are limited. Pool is dirty, beach towels are stained and worn. Might be ok for spring breakers but if you are over 25, stay at Atlantis.

Very Enjoyable Trip

This RIU is not as fancy as some of the other RIUS I have stayed in. The food at the buffet is OK but I wouldn't say great. The specialty meals were very good. The room was very clean throughout our six days. The beach is very nice, water is beautiful, plenty of beach chairs, but be aware there is no shelter from the sun unless you rent an umbrella @ $25 per day. The shows @ night were entertaining but not spectacular. A day pass( $125) @ the Atlantis was a lot of fun. Bring your snorkel & go to the Cove beach in Atlantis(the fish are incredible). This is a great place to relax & forget about the real world for a little while.

Riu Palace

I have stayed in many hotels over the years and I can say that none have compared to the Riu Palace. The service you experience at Riu is exceptional. Staff members are attentive and courteous. They make you feel as though you have the entire hotel to yourself! I would definitely stay in any of the Riu hotels across the world and and highly recommend this place to any traveler.

Great place

Our junior suite facing east, was fabulous, every morning the sun hit us in a dream, Bkfts, lunch were just OK, the signature restaurant need a lot to improve, meat just OK, shrimp was not fresh. Fruit juices were the best, ossobucko done to perfection. The bar although free did not carried premium vodka or gin, The people for entertainment need a good director and most important good microphone
