Atlantis, Bahamas the overpriced palace
Elizabeth Nov 9, 2009
The Atlantis is beautiful and exceptional-no doubt, but is very overpriced food-drink-shop wise. I have been traveling all ... around the world and can say is not worth it. You can stay at Sheraton for less, than half price and get a daily ticket to see Atlantis. The room was not nice at all, very simple even after the stuff required to get tip ($40) for a little water view instead of employees entrance...

Their are several good restaurants by the hotel by the Marina. Mesa grill is also good. Fish fry (local chain of restaurants) was popular but I found the food to be under par and was as expensive as the fancy restaurants by the hotels.

Fabulous Caribbean Adventure @ Royal Twr
Joyce Sep 11, 2009
Was upgraded at check in from Coral to Royal Towers--excellent! The lobby is fabulous, reminds me of the best Las Vegas ... hotels. The hotel is linked to the Coral Towers by the Casino. The distance between the front desk and the West Tower is about 1/2 a mile! Great ifyou don't mind the walk, but we had our mother with us, who has arthritis and found the walk a bit long. Yes, everything at Atlantis is expensive ($3 for a can of diet Coke!), but I expect that all fine hotels. The staff was SUPER friendly, sent an engineer when we got locked out of one room (long story!) and got us a wheelchair when our mother's leg made it difficult to walk (they did charge to rent; is that typical?).

Hotel was very accomodating. Lack poolside activities and pool closed early not offering any pools for night swimming, ... poolside dining for lunch was sporadic with food stands being closed. Room lacked area for drying wet bathingsuits. Meals were $$$$ but expected MESA Grill was excellent, SEAFIRE was a big disappointment. The Marketplace was $$$ but in comparison was a bargain.

Overall not so great
NY Aug 16, 2009
I have traveled to many hotels in the carribean and was afraid to try the atlantis due to its large size. It doesnt have a ... carribean feel. It is more like a las vegas resort with a beach. It is a great place if you have kids age 7 and above. There is a height requirement for most slides of 48 inches. My 5yr old daughter couldnt go on any major slides/tube rides. She was afraid anyway. She liked the mayan temple playground. It is definately an unique water playground. However here is the major problem... the resort is so big and crowded that the staff takes advantage of peoples fears of being able to get lounge chairs and dinner reservations. Unless you are down at the pool by 7 am or make reservations for dinner 1 wk in advance, you wont get chairs or be able to eat anywhere until 10 pm. The employees are also running a scam. I would call it extortion. When I went one morning to get chairs at 7 am, a pool attendant had reserved all the chairs and told me that if i gave him some money he would 'hook me up'. This was very wrong. In addition to paying for the room, i was now being taken advantage of by the pool boy. I had a right to any chair but he had blocked them off with towels and was charging people. And not just a few chairs. Probably about 1/2 of the chairs. Of course I complained and was basically blown off. You figure the managers were probably getting a cut. I cant believe i was the only one over the years to complain. I watched and each person was giving about $20. That means these guys were making anywhere from 300-600 a day. A great scam!!!! Dinner reservations were the same. They say they are booked with no reservations to keep the tables open for people who come by and slip them money. Thats what happens at such a big resort. I prefer the more relaxing quiet carribean resorts.

Nitty Aug 8, 2009
We stayed at the Atlantis Coral Towers on Paradise Island. We had a Waterview room with balcony and had views of the ocean, ... the pool, and lagoons. We were on the right side of the property, so we could see a majority of the property. It was absolutely beautiful! The staff was friendly and willing to assist with any need or want. The beach was fabulous. The one drawback was that the restaurants and stores were UNNECESSARILY expensive. We traveled to Nassau several times and the shops had reasonably priced merchandise and people were nice and helpful. The Miss Universe contestants were in town, so that was a special treat.

The hotel was fantastic and the staff very professional. We were always greeted with a good morning, good afternoon or good ... evening by the entire staff that was employed by the resort. On most days we went to the beach for some sun and relaxation. Of course we did a lot of swimming as well. We took a couple of trips as well. Our favorite experience was the day we went to Dolphin Cay and spent a day swimming with the dolphins. The least enjoyable thing we did was our trip to Robinson Crusoe Island. The Island was not what we had expected and the coral reef is dying,so there was very little sea life. The lunch we received was the poorest meal we had on our vacation. This trip compares favorably with trips we have taken to Jamaica and St. Croix.

My daughter and I stayed for 4 days.Upon arrival, we found hair on bathroom floor and tissues and towels were not replaced ... but only once.Hotel was very conveniently located but hotel staff could have been friendlier/warmer. They answered questions in as few words as possible and most times without a smile. For the money, which for us was very expensive, we just expected to be dazzled a little more. Our room was "average" and we expected nicer. It seemed that a few of the normal, inexpensive items usually in much lower priced hotels were just missing. The resort was very beautiful and really one of a kind. We did have a little difficulty navagating our way around and feel the resort could have been more user friendly and more directional signs would have helped tremendously.
Traveler type: Family
A short drive or ferry ride into Nassau provides you with an opportunity to acquire snacks, food and souveniers at substantially lower prices, about 1/3 of what you would spend at the resort. There was no food, snacks or beverages available anywhere at the resort that were not TREMENDOUSLY OVER-PRICED. I knew that the prices were going to be very high but never could I have imagined it would be this expensive just to survive at the resort.

stayed in the Beach Tower previously & booked the Coral Hotel but overwhelmed by check-in clerk who upgraded us to the Royal ... Towers, West! Was friendly, patient with check-in process, & complimented them on previous stay at Beach & coming back for upgrade to Coral & next time Royal Towers. Anyway, we got a bigger room, nicer amenities, friendly staff, & RT alot quieter than other two hotel locations with constant traffic noise & guests walking thru lobby & hotel hallways. Only negative would be further walk to the main/central hotel entrance as well as harbor restaurants, shopping, & movie theater. Loved Dolphin Cay activities, hint bring your suntan lotion & own camera too & use snorkel gear & waterproof camera given with the Trainer for the Day activity for later snorkeling at the beach & ocean reef on site. Atlantis hotel & restaurants overall really expensive but summertime can offer great savings & overall a fantastic all-inclusive family vacation.

book on-line Dolphin Cay to secure reservation date & save money than on-site. Book round-trip shuttle from airport to hotel on-line as well to save $. Saved even more on booking more days to save more on hotel cost. Got Jamba Juice for breakfast, very filling, & ate buffet at night before 7pm rush rather than daily meal plan to save even more. Get to water-park rides by opening at 10am to get more rides in before lines get really long or wait till 6pm before 7pm closing to get more rides in at the popular water rides.

We had a great trip. After reading reviews, we were worried about the cost of everything, but found the prices to be in line ... with most islands. We did pack snacks and cereal. We shopped at the little market nearby and bought sodas, gallons of water, milk, and liquor. We had cereal in the room and made our own drinks. There was a happy hour at some of the beach bars in the evening and certain drinks were half price. At the Beach Bar they even had a DJ that played music until 8pm. Great atmosphere on the beach! There are lots of restaurants and shops in the Marina Village. Our teenagers had a great time, especially the 13-17 year olds as they went to Club Rush each night. There wasn't as much for the 18 year olds or adults to do at night except gamble. They had a Comedy Show, but we felt it was a little high per person. There is a night club called Aura, but they have a strict dress code. Many people dress up in the evenings. We have been on several cruises with our teenagers. We asked them what they preferred. They said definitely Atlantis although my oldest liked the night life better on a cruise, but enjoyed the waterpark and beaches. Would we go back? Yes.

Buy breakfast items, liquor, water and sodas at the market nearby. We rented a refrigerator for our room for a small fee. We ate breakfast at Quiznos by the market for a very reasonable cost.
