Front desk staff was very friendlt upon check-in. We were not aware of the $17 per day per person room gratuity charge until ... we were asked to sign the paper upon check-in. Than adding insult to injury a card left in the room stated unless requested your sheets would be changed every 3 days or the last day of your stay. We had to request towels on 3 different days of our 6 day stay. We requested service for our TV 3 days in a row, which was blurry the whole time, and never had anyone come and check it out. The food at the sweet shop was terrific, the drinks were terrific, the pool bar food was terrific but the Angus Steakhouse was just so-so. The hotel has an excellent location for beach and pool. Casino is great if you like to gamble. Very relaxing stay and ... friendly staff. The housekeeping staff was very late each day and never provided enough towels or wash cloths. Shower leaked badly into sink/closet area and although they attempted to repair, they never did nor did they change our room. Dining options are limited as the complex is nowhere near the Nassua. Meals in NAssua or shorring at the straw market takes transportation by jitney which is reasonable but if you stay in town later than 7:00, the cab ride is a bit expensive for the 5-6 mile trip.
Traveler type: Family
You're captive to the restuarants in the Wyndham and Sheraton. Extremely expensive. If you venture out, the food is much more reasonable but need to hire transportation as it is 5-6 mile to get into town.

Nicer on the Outside than the Inside
MissMacofChi Oct 31, 2009
The pool/beach area is VERY nice, I enjoyed that a lot. We spent 2 days in Nassau and 2 days at the Atlantis. I liked how the ... #10 jitney was right outside the hotel so it was easy to get downtown (there were lots of taxis out front too). Apparently the Casino is nice, but I did not even walk through. The staff seemed like they couldn't be bothered with people, but they did what they had to do. Hotel seemed a little dated and the lack of upkeep was apparent. It was a typical hotel, the pictures on the website DEFINITELY are a huge difference than what it is really like. They have computers with internet access you can use, which is convenient. They also allow you to access the Sheraton's beach and water equipment usage (snorkel, etc.).
Traveler type: Couples
Take the #10 jitney into downtown- it's only $1.25, compared to a $15.00 taxi ride that is quite a savings!! BUUUTTTT downtown closes at 6-6:30pm, so if you are eating dinner in town you have to find a taxi back. You HAVE to try the conch chowder at Cafe Skans (great breakfast/lunch)!

Sis Aug 5, 2009
We arrived early (0800) and they claimed not to have our Orbitz reservation. However, they did go ahead and give us the room ... AND allowed us to check-in early. The patio pool bar area has been updated and though drinks and food are pricey, it is quite nice. Get a frozen drink at the Daq Shack on the beach by the volleyball court, you won't be disappointed. We had drinks at their bar upstairs, 22 Above, and throughly enjoyed the band. They are very good and versatile. Dinner at their Asian restaurant, Moso, is excellent too and no more expensive than any other restaurant. The Bahamas is hosting Miss Universe in August and they are cleaning up their act. We were also informed that this hotel will be closed for 8 weeks beginning Aug. 17th for "deep cleaning and some renovations." Skip Paradise Island and Atlantis, it's too crowded and too expensive. The Wyndham has what we needed - a nice time, a nice beach, and though it's not spotless, we had a clean room, in a safe environment.
Traveler type: Couples
Get out of the hotel and catch a bus/jitney (#10)to the area known as Fish Fry for $1.25. There are several restaurants and bars there to choose from and you can enjoy being "a local"! The bus stops running at 7pm though so you'll need a taxi back if you stay into the wee hours. Taxi's are plentiful though..

Scuba Diving trip
Crazy for scuba diving Aug 4, 2009
We came to this island specifically to dive with the sharks through Stuart Cove's. After landing, we took a taxi from the ... airport for $8 a person. We got to the Wyndham to check in and found out there would be an extra $17 a day/per person that was not included when we purchased our trip online through CheapTickets.com. The woman said that all the hotels charge this "resort fee" anytime you book online with CheapTickets, [...], etc. For the three of us, this was an extra $51 a day. They said it was for maid service, non-motorized water sports & a few other things. Shouldn't maid service be included? The non-motorized water sports were sitting on the beach and using the pool and waterslide. We feel we should have been made aware of this when purchasing our trip online. Another thing that annoyed us was we had to pay $1 for every local call we made. Our cell phones weren't compatible there. And finally, it also cost to use the Internet and computers in the lobby. Nothing was complimentary. Things are on the expensive side here. We went down to the tourist grocery store and got some items for the week to help with food costs. There is no sales tax here and everything pretty much comes from the US. Now after saying all that, the hotel was pretty nice. It was clean & well kept. The staff was friendly. The beach is nice as well as the pool. There is a small waterslide that is free to use. There is also a swim-up-to bar. They also have cement tables & chairs you can sit at in the pool. You can pay to do the other watersports on the beach like parasailing, jet skiing, etc. We are not big gamblers so did not spend much in the casino. We did not rent a car. People drive kind of crazy there. The buses that run are perfectly acceptable modes of transportation for getting around. Most trips are $1/person, if you go to downtown Nassau, it is $1.25. The only drawback to the buses are that they quit at 6 pm. If you want to go somewhere at night, you have to take a taxi. Stuart Cove's sent a bus to pick us up and bring us back after our dive which was nice. We did a 2-tank shark dive which was amazing!! We also did a 2-tank dive with them a second day which included a wreck dive. There are some guys that come around while you lay on the beach to sell you snorkel cruises. We decided to take one. We went out to Rose Island & snorkeled and then came back and had lunch on a private island. The original cost was $60, but when I said we were running low on money, he decided to charge me $50. I found out from other people on the cruise that we all got charged something different. We went to Nassau one day & walked around. The straw market has a lot of people selling basically the same things-purses, tshirts, towels, wooden items. We also took a ferry across to Paradise Island where the Atlantis hotel is located. This hotel is huge and amazing! We walked through some of it but couldn't see everything because we either had to be a guest there or buy a pass. They also have a nice little pirate museum downtown. You can take a tour for $12/person. We ended the week by going to Senor Frogs in downtown Nassau the night before we left. This did not make for an easy travel day the next day. Overall the trip was awesome. I am sure we will go back to do the shark dive again.
Traveler type: Family
Don't rent a car. Take the buses. You can also rent a scooter across from the hotel. Go to the grocery store and buy a few things so you don't have to eat out every single meal. They have refrigerators in the rooms.

Great views and great beach, but it gets really crowded in a hurry because you share the beach and pools with the Sheraton ... guests because they are connected. Be prepared to pay a lot for the buffet and outside pool bar. Those are the only 2 resturants that were casual to eat at and they aren't even open all of the time. Overall great spot and location. The service at the restaurants were lacking and overall service was not that great.

The Bahamas is Great, this Hotel is not!
Missing the Bahamas, not this hotel! Jul 27, 2009
The only thing I can say was good about this hotel was the room and the view. That was it, the room was big and bed was ... nice, and we could see the ocean. But that is where it ended. The Staff, except for a select few, were rude beyond measure. If you tried to double check something, such as your check out time, they will just give you attitude back or say, "Were you not listening to me mon!" Which is exactly what I was told to the very word. They will charge you for everything that comes your way. Lets say you want to get something from the little so called mini-mart, they add 15% gratuity there! Why am I tipping the person I am simply buying a soda from? Around the pools, when there was supposed to be a Life Guard, for 5 days that we were there I never once saw a life guard at anytime of the day. Given we did go out, and had somethings to do, I never saw one while we were actually at the hotel, EVER! The maintenance on the buildings is so so. If its raining, which it did for us a few days. STAY IN YOUR ROOM! The hotel has soo many leaks, they try to put towels down to catch the water, not even buckets. And after a while you are walking in puddles through your hotel since the towels cant hold anymore. Now I could have seen past most of this, and believe me there were a lot of small things beyond this that were adding up. I know this seems like a rant, but I rarely leave a survey like this for anything. I am generally happy and can see past most things, but the one thing that really made me so angry and mad is when we needed some help. At 4 AM my wife was having some problems with her shoulder. Its a long story but I was simply trying to get her some tylenol or advil to help relieve the pain. So I called guest services, they told me to wait till 8 AM when the mini-mart opened. I walked down to the Front Desk in hopes their emergency kit would have something. But this put me over the top. Their so-called emergency kit, was a metal box from the 50's or 60's, and had a small bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide, a small bottle of Rubbing Alcohol, a few rubber gloves, and small small bottle of stuff that you would plunge a syringe into. I AM NOT LYING. I really wish I was lying about this, but I was so mad at this point that I am going to write this review on many sites. If you really care about safety for yourself, or your family, DO NOT STAY HERE! The simple fact they have no emergency kit, and I would doubt any kind of EMT training, has made me hate this place so much, that I will never stay at a Wyndham resort ever again! One last note, The Sheraton and the Wyndham have apparently merged around the Crystal Casino, and you can use all of the facilities at the Sheraton, but guess what? They are just as incompetent as those at the Wyndham. Avoid BOTH!
Traveler type: Couples
The food in this hotel is so ridiculously expensive that after seeing our bills, we have decided, and I will share this with you as well, that if we do go back to the Bahamas we are going to stay at the Sandals resort. Here is why, yes it seems more expensive by a lot, but Sandals includes your food, drinks, room service and a ton of water activities that were scarce if found at all at the Wyndham that you have to pay for. With how the prices alone of food are set, we should have booked Sandals in the first place as it cost us the same amount if not slightly more! I know this since our friends that we went down there with, stayed at Sandals cause they were getting married. That was the best part of the trip, we got into Sandals to be with them have fun, and not have to pay a dime cause they even took care of us, and we were not staying there! If you are traveling as a couple or family, stay at Sandals as the average cost of food for 2 was around $80 or more per meal. I wish I was lying on that one to, and we did not order the most expensive food. Our first meal was $92 or so, and that was for 2 glasses of wine, a salad and 1 entree. Oh and the mandatory 15% gratuity on everything they charge at the Wyndham. I would not be surprised if they charged 15% on the $1 charge they make if you have to make a LOCAL call.

Right off the bat, we get there and our room isin't ready. We eventually get our room, and don't have wash towels, then every ... time we'd open a drawer, the door that hides the fridge fly's open. The balcony door is the heaviest door we have ever seen and it grinds metal to metal when you open it. You could hear ever time someone around you opened their door, the balcony doors were all like that. If you'd ask a question, the staff would just point instead of telling you, so you had to guess where you were going. So overall it wasn't the best hotel experience.

Don't rent a car. Take the buses. You can also rent a scooter across from the hotel. Go to the grocery store and buy a few things so you don't have to eat out every single meal. They have refrigerators in the rooms.

buffet is really good, but pricey and it is the only thing open to eat at. I would suggest eating while you are out in town if possible. THere is nothing close to walk to to eat at.

If you have a family of 4 or more, car is recommended to rent, for night activities; couples with no children, public transportation is great and the locals are great on providing directions.

If you don't want to have the same lunch by pool, you can walk a short distance down the beach to the Sheraton Dolphin Grill/Cafe.

Do the Powerboat Adventure trip - it was amazing and SO worth the money.

Take a jitny into town to eat. The prices at the resort are outrageous. There are many places to eat in town that are MUCH less expensive.

The straw market was pretty close to the hotel. You can bargain with the people there.
