Melia Resort

Well Melia was an amazing experience. Had many perks and some small negatives. I think the extra financial charges should've been explained in detail upon arrival. The amenties you are paying for should have been presented in an up front manner instead of at check out. There were various things that' were included in my stay that I had to pay for because of their policies that I never new we're available to me.

Not at all cost effective

Upon check in, they informed us that we would be charged an addition $40.00 per night, which was NOT clear at the time of booking. This added almost another $300 to the cost of our trip. Additionally, room service was not efficient and we had to call down multiple times to get our room made up, or to get more towels or toilet paper, as we would run out and they would not replace these items without us specifically requesting it. The cost of food was also insanely high, as in $13.00 for a hotdog high, which forced us out of the hotel for every meal which was not only a huge pain, but made us feel as though we had completely been ripped off for the entire visit. At one point, our cards stopped working for our room and the front desk staff was less than polite about it. We got the problem resolved, but it was one hassle after another which made it very difficult to enjoy our stay. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, despite the fact that it was clean.

Girl's Getaway

Nice hotel. A bit dated, but overall, great experience. As others have said, check-in is a little slow, but front desk staff was very apologetic and friendly. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurants (seemed a bit pricey). We used public transportation that is only $1.25. Casino is small, but enjoyable. Pools and beach access are great! Friendly bartenders in pool area. Peddlers on beach are a little bothersome, but being a return visitor, I knew what to expect. Rooms are dated but very clean. Overall, great experience and would definitely recommend!

Don't hold your breath.

Great beach with amazing turquoise water, but the staff is so bad I would never return. As soon as you get there the theme of waiting for inordinate amounts of time begins. We waited in line to check in for an hour and there were only 10 people in front of us with 3 desk attendants. Luckily our room was ready, but many others were not (it was 7pm). Prepare to wait for everything....at the bar, for a towel, for your room to be cleaned, to be seated for dinner, for your dinner, for the check....EVERYTHING! They had the slowest staff I've every seen.

Last Minute Getaway

Everything was o.k. and we were glad to get a decent hotel in such short notice. However, the check-in experience was extremely time consuming, especially after we spent so much time getting through customs when entering the island. We, not unlike a lot of other people, were very anxious to get to the beach and start vacationing. A long line at check-in is the last thing we wanted to deal with which in turn begins the vacation on a sour note and put us all in an 'on edge' mood.

The Absolute Worse!

My family of 4 traveled to the Bahamas and stayed at the Melia. Upon arriving at 3:35p we were informed that our room was not ready. Mind you I had 4 year old twins with me. Checked back an hour later still no room and no explanation as to why. The workers at the front desk acted as if I was a bother. Three hours after arriving and throwing a fit, a gentleman by the name of Howard, introduces himself as the manager that was taking over the later shift. He gave me keys and free breakfast for two (all four of us were inconvenienced). When I got to my room again I was disappointed. No towels or wash cloths. The patio furniture was torn and worn. The room itself was dusty! The hotel was worn and ragged. The grounds were broken up. Beach chairs torn up. The pools did not have chlorine! I would not allow my children to go in the pool. There was mold and algae all around the wall of the pool and waterfall. I did get in the hot tub once and now I have a staph infection on my leg!!! I will never stay at a Melia property and will make sure that none of my family or friends do either.

One Year Anniversary

I booked the hotel for a quick 4-day anniversary get away with my hubby. I read the reviews about the long check-in time and didn't worry about it too much. But when we had ti stand in line for Customs for nearly 1.5 hrs, the last thing you want to do is get to the hotel and have to wait in another long line. But we did. Almost 45 minutes. I needed a foot massage by the time we got to our room. My husband and I added the all-inclusive rate during check in and we're glad we did. Rooms were clean but the hotel is old. The ceiling in our bathroom looked like it would come down any minute. There was a fly infestation so nobody ate outside. Beware. Beaches are clean and the water is magnificent.
