Quick Getaway

The hotel is close to the airport, but away from Nassau. There are "buses" that run to Nassau during the day, but if you miss the last one back you're out of luck and have to take an expensive taxi. Food is relatively pricey everywhere in the Bahamas, but there was a nice Thai restaurant next door to the hotel which had decent priced delicious food. There is also a grocery store about a mile away, but the hotel doesn't have fridges or microwave ovens so you can't get much of a meal together. Check out the little shops under the hotel in the tunnel leading to the casino for snacks and drinks. The beach and pool areas are awesome! They were still building the mega hotel next door, so Melia was relatively quiet and relaxing. I wonder how busy the area gets when the new hotels open...

Best trip ever!

The hotel was fantastic, worst part was the check in....2 hours and 40 minutes of standing in line. Would have helped if they had an already prepaid line. Our check in took no more than 5 minutes and that was them copying our photo Ids. After that, the service was fantastic, including the doormen who were a fount of information on things to do and where to catch bus 10 to downtown.

Nice Hotel Terrible Food

The hotel itself was really nice, newly renovated and clean. Hotels on the beach is always the way I like to go, so this hotel was perfect in that aspect. The ocean was amazing, I never went into the pool. I Was very disappointed there was no "all inclusive" option available. The food was really expensive and never satisfying. If you want good food at good prices take the bus to Senior Frogs right in downtown (near the Hilton, which is pink), tacos are to die for and really good drinks. I would suggest requesting a fridge for your room like $10 a day and take the bus which is right across the street from the hotel and go into town to the grocery store to get essentials like water and snacks. The excursions away from the hotel were acceptable like visitng Paradise Island for the waterpark (tip: get there early the lines are like Disney and it's pretty muggy there). Not impressed that were no shuttles available to excursions, had to get a private cab which did cost a pretty penny but was worth it.

Get ready to pay extra and extra and extra

The Bad things: Our room did not have Wi Fi, we had to go to the lobby to check our emails and get on line. We got charged twice for drinks at the lounge, after my boyfriend paid for the drinks with credit card they also asked for our room number, we didn't think anything of it because we paid with the card, but when check out time came we noticed they also charged the drinks to the room. They charged us for long distance calls when we made local calls, they told us because we dialed the "country code/area code" that it registered it as a long distance call. The first night we ate at one of the restaurants in the hotel and aside from being very expensive, we noticed that they automatically charge to the account a service charge aka gratuity charge of 15 to the bill, but in addition they also added a line with the word "tip" so they got double the tip for a not so great service. We read in a pamphlet the next day that service charge is another word for gratuity so after that we stopped "tipping" as everyone automatically gets a 15 tip. Front desk staff not friendly or very helpful. The Good Things: Beautiful beach and crystal clean water, very clean and well kept. Fun complimentary/free activities like paddle boarding, kayaking, and snorkeling. Great pools and hot tub. House keeping and beach staff very nice, helpful and friendly. Location is great, walking distance to a lot of restaurants we didn't do the all inclusive so we wondered out took the bus and rented a scooter to explored the island. Very safe area. Beautiful Lounge area, very modern.

daughters destination wedding

Destination wedding! Little shaky in the beginning. Couldn't find our reservations and had to wait for rooms to be ready. One couple paid for an ocean front view room and was not given one. Had to wait until one was available. Originally made arrangements with the Sheraton but the Melia was in the process of taking over at the time of the wedding which is why I believe there was confusion. Once settled in everything was great. Very pleased with the cleanliness of the rooms and how nice and helpful the staff was. The food was great but I would definitely suggest an all inclusive package. Had our grandchildren with and the staff went out of their way to help make them happy. On my daughters wedding day not only did things go well the staff made sure my daughter had a wedding dance and they had a special song sung for her. Her day went great and I again thank everyone there for helping celebrate her wedding.
