Disappointed

I came here with my husband for our honeymoon. The staff was borderline rude, when we would ask for something small like a bottle of water by the pool, they responded like we were putting them out, and sometimes we would get the requested item after a long wait and sometimes it never came. They did not put fresh towels out until 10:30 every morning so we always had to wait for those. The drinks were VERY watered down. The nice restaurants were always booked, even though half of the tables were always empty. The food was mediocre. We were told we would have a spa credit, but they did not acknowledge that. I am overall very disappointed by the experience and it is sad to know how much money we saved up and spent for this trip. I will not return to a Sandals resort because after I talk to other family members and friends who have stayed at other sandals they surprisingly have very similar complaints. The good comments I do have was that the room was always clean, and the beach and ocean were nice. I also enjoyed the water sports that were included. Also there was one bartender named Aaron that had a great attitude and was very friendly and fast. That's it.

Our honeymoon November 2013

We spent 4 of our 7 day honeymoon dealing with more than any couple should during this special moment in life. Upon arrival they attempted to put us in the wrong room and we ended up having to spend the night in this room as our type of room was fully booked. How is that possible when we booked almost a year in advance? We moved to our butler suite and it was ok but in need of some tlc. Mold all over balcony and rug and a large, exposed hole in the roof above our balcony. Not what you expect to see for the price you pay to have a beachfront butler suite. The website showed free phone calls to US & Canada, it has been updated in the last week to now include only if you download a sandals app. We have a special needs child at home whom we have never left for more than a long weekend so free phone calls was an important thing for us. We ended up spending a chunk of cash on phone calls and only after repeatedly going to the front desk about it were we compensated, but only for a partial amount. We booked tours and one was cancelled due to weather (not the resorts fault) but they tried to cancel another by telling us the person who booked us (weeks ago) should not have because a private party had booked the boat. We saw these same people earlier in the day and when we asked about the tour that was still a go we were told as long as weather holds up it should be on. What changed in a matter of hours? We rented a vehicle to get away from the resort and we had a great time. When we returned and went to go shower for dinner there was no water, and this lasted for hours. We decided to get room service that night and our burgers showed up almost completely raw, it was gross! On another evening our sink drain was being fixed when the door handle and key lock fell apart. We couldn't get into our room without maintenance and we were stuck in our room once we returned until the issue was fixed. We were brushed off a lot by staff with the exception of our butlers, a certain bartender, and a couple guest services employees. The evening before departure we were offered two free nights which we accepted and thanked them for. We showed up to the front desk over an hour before our checkout time to go over the things discussed the previous evening. The paperwork for our two free nights was finally brought for us to view and sign when the departure taxi was literally loaded with our luggage and waiting for us. Not much time to read all the fine print and we both believe this was done intentionally. We posted a review about 5 days after returning home only to receive a message from Sandals stating that in order to get our 2 free nights we needed to delete our review and not post anything in any public forum. Really?!! If you have ever researched Sandals you know that a flight from MN to any of the destinations is going to require a day of travel to get to and from. So we are supposed to pay for airfare to show up and then leave and on top of that I cant speak the truth about what happened because it could damage the image of the resort?! We decided to gladly forfeit our 2 nights so that we can inform travelers of these shady practices. Save your special occasions for another place or you could end up as disappointed as we are.

A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE

I had never been to either the Bahamas or an all inclusive resort. We were very pleased overall. If you are looking to relax this is a great choice. I have come to learn that no vacation is ever perfect so here is what I thought was great and what I would recommend improving on: The property is beautiful, the beaches pristine for the most part except that I did notice plastic washing up on them and every morning I saw empty drink cups from the day or night before. The rooms were great, big, clean and well stocked. The staff sensational, everyone asking how is your trip and being very happy to have you there and very helpful. The food was what I expected for an all inclusive not, the greatest but good enough to satisfy. The pool very nice and fun with activities. We went snorkling and used the sail boats on the property. Some of the equipment was outdated and needs to be looked at. 3 of the boats were not working when we were there but the water was beautiful turquoise. The only really place I was not happy with was the outdated gym. The elyptical machines were old and rusty, the weight machines and overall interior really need to be updated. The resort location was a short 40 minute trip from Miami, and we met some very nice people during the day and especially the night at the fire pits that surround the pool. Watch out for the bugs on the beach at night. We had a wonderful dinner at night under a full moon but came home with lots of bites so just use some "OFF" which is provided in the rooms and you will be fine. Overall though a very good value for the money and a very relaxing place. If you are a couple looking for a great romantic getaway, this is a very good place to go.

Good Marketing: Doesn't Deliver

Just returned from our honeymoon at Sandals Emerald Bay. This was our second experience with a Sandals and it will be our last! The property is absolutely beautiful and well maintained, but unfortunately that is all it has to offer. The whole experience felt like a cruise without the excursions. The check-in process made us feel like herded cattle, and took 30-40 minutes regardless of the fact that we went through the trouble of checking in online to avoid the hassle. We booked a penthouse villa that came with a butler, only to find out that we shared the butler with countless other guests. Our butler was extremely hard-working and personable, but could not seem to provide less than a 40 minute wait on any request. Our room was far inferior to what was shown online, with worn, unmatched furniture. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were nice, but that was the extent of the "pent house" luxury. The bathroom was decent and clean, comparable to most hotels. We enjoyed the quiet pool for the first couple of days. It wasn't really that quite since part of the hotel is under construction. The floats they had were old and turned our skin blue. The beach was very nice and quiet, and very beautiful, but this part of the island is so windy that watersports was closed throughout our entire trip. This meant no sailing or snorkeling which is why we came to the Exumas. There are three restaurants, a pub and a pizza place. Breakfast buffet was above average and the pub food was good, but the other places masquerading as "fine dining" were a joke. Food service was consistently slow, wait staff was inexperienced, and food quality low. Staff use noisy oversized gas powered carts on the same paths guests use. Very annoying. The highlight of our trip was leaving the grounds and spending the $100 to go to George Town. Don't come to this resort if you want to experience the Exumas because once you're on property you're secluded from the rest of the island and could realistically be anywhere. This place was a big disappointment in a lot of small ways. It does not have a 5 star feel. The "luxury" feels forged and mass-produced. Feels more like a theme park than a luxury resort.

Great Experience

I have not been much of a beach person as I mostly like to take vacations to ski resorts, but this resort made me realize what I have been missing for the past 6 or 7 years. One of the best places I have ever been. The rooms were clean, could have been dusted a little better, but otherwise very clean. The staff was always friendly and helpful, if they don't know something they will find out right away. Butlers were great. The food was always good, and sometimes excellent. Entertainment staff always had something fun going on. Would definately go back and recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.

Pizza at Dyno's is great as well as the wings at the drunkin duck. Menu items are the same daily, but quality varies day to day for the same meal. Oh yeah, the icecream at the Italian restaurant is the best.

Stolen Money & Horrible Customer Service

We recently visited Sandals Emerald Bay for our honeymoon. On our last day, hundreds of dollars were stolen from my wife's purse while she was showering at the Red Lane Spa. Unfortunately since reporting this to them, Sandals Emerald Bay employees have lied to us, been very passive aggressive in both emails and on the phone, been unresponsive, and generally treated us like they could not care less about us. Bad way to end a honeymoon. The full story is at bit.lySandalsSucks
