simple, affordable, excellent value

I stayed in a single room - which was small but clean. The bathroom was actually better than I expected. The hotel is close to sub-way stations which makes it easy to get around in Vienna. The breakfast was much better than expected and the staff was really nice. The free WiFi in the hotel is not very stable but worked occasionally. Overall - great value for a hotel in Vienna.

Close to transport

Rooms and towels a bit tired. Lovely reception and excellent breakfast buffet. 1 minute from subway stop with 2 stops to Centrum. Staff very helpful. Overall nice stay for expensive city. If you need a hotel for a base and are willing to use the local transport this hotel would work just fine.

Reasonable option for reunion or short visit.

Most of staff were friendly and helpful. Housekeeping kept room clean and location is convenient to SudTirol subway stop and tram lines. Minor problems were that elevator was out of service and refrigerator in room needs adjusting. It was set at maximum coldness, but contents were lukewarm. Cabinet in which refrigerator is located was extremely warm. No air conditioning, but had a good portable fan. Overall, it was adequate.

Satisfactory hotel

Considering the prices of hotels in Vienna, this is a good value. Fairly sized rooms, bathroom a bit small, but OK. Very clean. Excellent breakfast. The hotel is on a busy street, so there is a fair amount of noise. It is very close to a subway station. While in Vienna, you probably want to use public transportation, which is very good.

Not the nicest location, but good value

- the location is not that nice with all the reconstruction of the Südbahnhof going on - rooms are quite small and not soundproof at all - on the plus side, the breakfast is nice and one can get fairly quickly to the city center

Worst Place to Stay

The management asked us for our room key every time we left, and then questioned us every time we would go upstairs to our room, which made us uncomfortable. I was awoken several times during the night to very loud noises. The mini-fridge was actually hotter on the inside (broken). [*] and the showers are just about large enough to stand in. The sink in the bathroom was so tiny, that every time you ran it, water would go everywhere. They didn't provide even the most basic toiletries such as shampoo (even budget hotels will give you those). You also had to lock your own door on the way out with an old-fashioned key (they did not lock on their own). I would say the only advantages to this hotel are the free WiFi and proximity to the Südtiroler Platz U-Bahn station.

Great people, small rooms

If you book a single, you'd better be a small person. That is typical in many hotels, but be aware of it.

I stayed at the Congress Hotel

I stayed at the Congress Hotel Vienna in April 2010, and I found the hotel good taking the price in consideration. It was a clean room with a nice bathroom, and it had all you needed, if you are a casual guest. The breakfast served consisted of new types of ham and salami for the bread each day, and there was a lot more to choose from including cornflakes and scrambled eggs. It was located very close to U- and S-station Südtirolerplatz, and it was therefore easy to find transportation. The staff were nice and helpful, and if you would like to eat close to the hotel, then I would recommend Restaurant Böhmerwald about 100 metres from the hotel. Good traditional food at a low price. I will recommend this to people who are satisfied with something average at a relatively low price.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Walk for 15 minutes or take the tram to the "Old Town" which is also called First District. Great Architecture, restaurants, shopping and more in a truely unique historic setting.
