Only a few minutes walk from the Old Town of Salzburg lies the historic and artistically well preserved palace of Leopoldskron. It is nestled by a small, idyllic lake with a majestic view of the Untersberg mountain. The Schloss Leopoldskron is known to be the birthplace of the Salzburg Festival and is the original filming location of “The Sound of Music”. Schloss Leopoldskron is privately owned by an American educational institution and has restricted access. Guests of the 12 suites in the palace, and the 55 rooms in the nearby Meierhof, have full access to the area. Special bonus: you get to have breakfast in the magnificent rooms of the Schloss.
Our guests also profit from the Max-Reinhardt library, the Whitman fitness-center, and the free WIFI. For athletic visitors we suggest the quiet tracks around the lake for running and cycling.

Truely and unique and beautiful experience to be able to stay at such a majestic location which made our stay in Salzburg very special. The grounds were breathtaking and very rare to be able to spend time in such a beautiful castle or "Schoss"
with historic interiors. The hotel portion was very nice and service very accommodating, and reasonable price.
Many take Sound of Music tours nearby, but a treat to be able to stay on location.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Make reservations for dinners and lunches, cabs not expersive, easy to get around Salzburg.
We loved the lake, the breakfast, the library, the garden, the walk into town and the Internet access. Staff was kind and pleasant. It was so unique that we did not need the extras. We stayed in the Superior room, high ceiling and good sized
bathroom. Will visit again with family.
