Originally built in 1187 and redesigned by Baron Rosenberger in 1555 it has seen many personalities over centuries including Grand Duchess Margarethe Maultasch and Emperor Napoleon. In 1398 the manor was lovingly restored and became the Castle Hotel. Although Castle Rosenegg meets the modern requirements of a hotel for the comforts of its guests, it still retains its unique charm.

Trying to check-in was a nightmare. There was VERY little parking spaces at the entrance to the hotel. Cars were everywhere and blocked others in. The rooms were VERY small & dark. Also, they were not up to the German standards of clean that we
are used to.When checking in we heard the receptionist tell some other people that not all of their rooms had bathrooms which really scared us. Fortunately, our 2 rooms did have bathrooms. Honestly, if we had not prepaid for the rooms, we would have left and spent more time in Berchtesgaden. The highlight of the experience was the breakfast. It offered a huge variety of really fantastic types of food with wonderful service. We have always wanted to stay in a castle hotel--now we have--been there done that & next time we will spend more time in Switzeland & Germany.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
The Italian restaurant in one section of the hotel was good food at a reasonable price. The formal restaurant in the main part of the hotel would not be worth the price.
