Elegant Melbourne hotel close to major attractions and boutiques
Situated on Swanston Street mere steps from some of Melbourne's finest boutiques, the Swanston Hotel Melbourne Grand Mercure offers a bit of luxury in the heart of it all. The Bourke Street Mall, Federation Square, Crown Casino and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre are all within a short walk. Upstairs, accommodations are downright plush; rooms feature high-end amenities and windows that actually open (a rarity in most major Australian cities). Two on-site restaurants, The Loudon Kitchen & Grill and Soul Cafe, serve a variety of light bites, while a lounge, dubbed Cocoon Bar, offers a pizza menu alongside its drink list.

quiet bad sound proof of rooms,
quiet bad sound proof of rooms, so can heard very clearly next door's action. i was unlucky to get a neighbor that still watched tv loudly at 3am. other than that, all's good.

This Hotel was in an excellent
This Hotel was in an excellent position for anyone visiting Melbourne. The room was quite spacious. The beds and pillows were exceptionally hard and had been around for along time. The bedspreads could do with replacing as there were many marks on them. Some noise could be heard from the room next door of crying children if you were a light sleeper, I mean we knew the names of the children. But other than these few things it was a pleasant stay. The complimentary breakfast was quite enjoyable with a pleasant view. We enjoyed our holiday in Melbourne.

would not call a 4 & 1/2 star. OK but not great. Fantastic location for Myer, DavidJones & Chinatown. Smells a little like ashtray - even though it is a nonsmoking hotel.

I was not overly impressed as
I was not overly impressed as this hotel claimed a 4star rating. The pool was minute, there was no changing rooms. The 8th floor where I had my room looked in dire need of a refurb in the lobby area with draylon style furniture etc and inside my room, though it was clean and spacious was a bit dated and the bathroom was in need of upgrading as the shower barely managed a trickle and leaked under the shower screen across the floor.

the reason for my stay was to
the reason for my stay was to be with my fellow motor racing friends. To be refused to be able to watch F1 coverage on tv in cocoon bar was unaccecptable, and will staying elsewhere in the future. Your barman needs to listen to his customers.
