Modeled on the original European pensione hotels, the Pensione Hotel Melbourne combines turn-of-the-century building features such as exposed brick with modern furnishings and décor. Rooms are modest yet refined; some are big enough to sleep three. There's even a rooftop sundeck for enjoying some quietude in the big city. Wireless Internet access is available for a fee. The on-site restaurant, Pensione Café & Bar, serves light meals and strong cocktails every night.

Good value
Small but everything you need in a convenient location. Train station across street, grocery store a couple of blocks away, and and most sights within 15-20 min walk. Internet access was too highly priced. If sharing the room with someone else, there is very little privacy due to glass bathroom doors. Overall we were happy.

Small rooms but great location!
Like the other reviews say, the rooms here are really small. I've been to Europe, and believe me, the room I had here was even smaller than some of the hotels back there. However, if you're planning to spend most of your time exploring Melbourne, and only sleep in this room, then it's perfect. The price is great! Especially for the location -- right next to Southern Cross Station. It is extremely well connected, by train and tram. You can even take the SkyBus direct from the airport to Southern Cross and just walk to the hotel from there. This hotel has virtually no amenities, but again if you're here to explore Melbourne, then you won't need them. In summary, for the price, even though the room was small, it was worth every penny. I wouldn't recommend for families, but great for singles or couples.

Great location, nice rooms and
Great location, nice rooms and service but unfortunately very noisy. The rooms are quite small and you can hear the noise easily from next door and also the street noise on the 1st floor that we were on was very noisy also.

We enjoyed our stay at the Pensione
We enjoyed our stay at the Pensione Hotel very convenient to southern cross station and to trams and all the lights. Rooms are a little small but that is the only draw back staff and price excellent. Would stay again !
