Boutique chic hotel by Queen Victoria Market sports restaurant and pool

The Jasper Hotel is a modern and sophisticated boutique hotel situated next to Queen Victoria Market on the northern edge of Melbourne's central business district. For years the facility was the home of the YWCA Victoria; then, in 2006, the property underwent an exhaustive renovation to transform into what it is today. All guests receive free access to the on-site fitness center and pool. The on-site restaurant, Jasper Kitchen, cooks up fresh dishes with produce from the market next door.

  • Sophisticated boutique hotel
  • Located in prime position next to Queen Victoria Market
  • Enjoy fresh produce at Jasper Kitchen

The Jasper Hotel covers 65 rooms, including seven suites that embrace contemporary style. Expect chic accents like sleek headboards and black-and-white jacquard bed skirts – complete with coordinating throw pillows. Rooms look out to the city or market and provide amenities such as a flat-screen television, iPhone docking stations, fully stocked mini-bar and in-room safe. Wi-Fi access is also available (fees apply).

During its life as the YWCA Victoria, the Jasper Hotel Melbourne was known as Hotel Y. Today, however, the jasper theme reigns supreme, as the renovate hotel is decorated with colors of the jasper gemstone.

All guests receive free access to the on-site swimming pool, sauna and fitness center with cardiovascular equipment and free weights. Guests also have access to the Jasper Art Gallery, which showcases works from Melbourne's emerging artists. The business center offers access to high-speed Internet (fees apply).

The on-site restaurant, Jasper Kitchen, builds a new menu daily around fresh produce it obtains at the Queen Victoria Market next door.

Location, location, location!!!

Very nice hotel and very nicely situated...a couple blocks from Victoria Marketplace and a couple blocks from the free CityRail tram. You could also walk to China town...Melbourne is a very walkable city. Our hotel room was opposite from the street side and was very quiet. I would definitely stay there again.

Pleasant surprise

Searching hotels online is some sort of hit and miss affair. Jasper definitely was a hit. My business involved a visit to RMIT which is only a couple of blocks away, and for a morning wake-up stroll the Victoria market is a great exploration for all senses. After work visits to downtown, including Federation Square, is all within walking distances along streets busy with pedestrians until late evening.

Good but lacking amenities

This is a small hotel right near the Queen Vic markets on the edge of Melbourne's city centre. The reception and hall ways were quite funky and modern. The room itself was clean but basic. A small flat screen tv, no bigger than a standard computer monitor was mounted to the wall. No iPod dock, no gym or pool but vouchers can be provided for free access to a gym, a few blocks away. Kettle and tea and coffee in room and small mini bar. Quote good value for a short stay without any frills. A little far from the bars and restaurants on the other side of Melbourne's city centre though (up to 30 mins walk).

Very close to Queen Vic markets for fresh produce (although no cooking facilities in room) and close to GPO shopping centre and Bourke Street mall.

The location is great with the tram station right there. The Melbourne market is right next door and if you wanted to you could walk to the centre of Melbourne within 15 minutes. The room was clean and comfortable although you could here the trams passing right below. For a cheep stay in a great location, I can't think of a better place to stay and I will stay there again when next in Melbourne.

The Jasper has exceptional people

The Jasper has exceptional people working for it. They where both curtious and helpful at all times. The location is great if you are interested in the Market and the tram stop right out front gets you anywhere you want to go in a short time. Walking wise it is all up hill from the main areas but needless to say down hill when going out in the morning. The rooms are large and quiet even those close to the elevators. A definate to try.
