Hotel dated and disappointing

Hotel must have been extraordinary once and the grounds and pools are beautiful but it is in desperate need of refurbishment as decor is dated and tired. I am surprised Sheraton has left this so long. Food was exorbitantly overpriced and almost inedible. Buffet breakfast was cold and service was uncaring. Drinks tasted like they were made with paint thinner. Staff were pleasant and chatty but service is erratic . My first room smelled terribly of mold and damp. Will be great if it is remodeled.

Really Nice

Had a great time. Mom, Dad, and our seven year old son. Great pools. On the beach, but can't swim in the ocean in the spring/summer due to Jellies. Really nice, helpful staff. Have read comments about rooms needing updating, but my son and I loved the retro Jetson room light control panel. And even my picky wife thought cleanliness and upkeep was excellent. Food in hotel is expensive. No inexpensive options. We had two breakfast buffets included everyday as part of deal. Try to get that and you will be set. Would go back. Great for kids.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Walk the four mile beach 15 minutes to the Port Douglas Lifeguard Club resturaunt right on the beach. Have a reasonable meal and beer looking out over the surf while supporting the Lifeguards.

Decent, but could do better

We traveled with our two small children to the Sheraton in Port Douglas. We visited the Kuranda Scenic Railway, the Great Barrier Reef and Hartley Crocodile Adventure while staying in Port Douglas. Overall, we absolutely loved the adorable little town of Port Douglas. We were a bit disappointed in the hotel. It was overall clean, but the decor was outdated. The front door to the lobby was broken during our entire visit. The flip side is that the staff was very attentive to our needs. Otherwise, the hotel has a great location and was an overall good value for the price.

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

There is no use looking for third party resellers of tours in Port Douglas. The prices are fixed (we learned the hard way). Definitely book through the activities desk at the hotel. They are very knowledgeable and it is so much more convenient.
