Greedy - no idea of customer satisfaction
We had booked a studio room which turned out to be tiny. We agreed to pay an extra $50 a night for a suite which was much larger with a lounga and a jacuzzi. Everything was extra. Wireless internet $16.50 a day but only allowed one laptop to connect. Room cleaning isn't included ($35 a day I think) but the final straw was when we asked for some clean towels and were told they were available for a small charge. The management of this hotel need to understand their guests requirements rather than charge them for everything.

Spotlessly clean and well equipped apartment. Reception staff very friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Great location, within walking distance of all restaurants and the beach. Will definitely stay at the Shantara Resort if we return to Port Douglas

We had an excellent stay at the Shantara and will be staying again when in Port Douglas. We stayed in a pool deck apartment which was well equipped and was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and arriving after hours was no problem. It is well situated, close to main street and beach - only a short walk to both.

Good Location - 350 m from Main
Good Location - 350 m from Main street (Macrossan St) and about 1k to the Wharf. It is also close to the beach. Apartment was well laid out with a good sized balcony overlooking a beautiful pool. Bed was comfortable. The walkways through to the ooms give the impression of being in a rainforest walk. Very cool!

We really enjoyed our stay....The resort also gave us the option to "upgrade" to the apartment.... They took care of everything including tour bookings and booking restaurants. The location was superb...only a 5 min walk to the main street and also only a 5 min walk to the beach. We certainly recommend in upgrading to an apartment for long term stays. We will certainly go back there next time we are back in Port Douglas....

very nice overall
We were just at the Shantara for four days and five nights. We wanted to do a Daintree tour and go snorkeling on the reef, and the staff pointed us to two tours that we really thought were great and personal. The rooms are really clean and new and we loved that. It was our honeymoon, and the owners left a bottle of bubbly and glasses in our fridge with a personal note which was such a welcome and nice touch! The room we had was a studio pool deck room which admittedly was a bit small, but we did not spend a lot of time in the room since we wanted to explore. i wanted that room since we could jump right into the pool from our room which was a great touch, though i would have liked it if the pool was heated and if the decks had more sun - there was lots of foliage which provided some privacy, but our deck did not really get sunlight, so we didn't swim much at the pool as a result. also notable is that these are apartments and not an actual hotel, so there is no restaurant, etc, but that didn't bother us a bit as there are dozens of places to go to just one block away on port douglas' main strip. overall the shantara was a really lovely little boutique that was walking distance to all the good places but still made us feel welcome and homey!

Excellent, clean and well equipped
Excellent, clean and well equipped room. We stayed in a 1BR apartment which was great. However didn't expect that servicing was not included and would cost an additional $30 a night. We declined. Disappointed to be questioned when requesting additional toilet paper and shampoo after our supplies were exhausted after 3 nights. That said, recommend the hotel. Service staff helpful.

Nice new building with great pools.
Nice new building with great pools. Staff were very helpful in organising tour bookings and other travel assistance. However, I did feel that five star marketing is just wrong, the location was not bad but still a decent walk from everything, and that the 'extra charges' for room service just didn't match the price we paid.
