The perfect position for a hotel. Close to the centre of town but designed in such a way as to give privacy and peace and quiet. The fact that it is not a family hotel so there are no young children about helped. The internal decor was well
thought out and the amenities provided were more than adequate and very comfortable both in terms of the furniture provided and the air conditioning. The apartment had its own balcony and direct entry to the hotel's swimming pool which was both clean and a good size so that one could swim decent lengths whilst also having shallow areas if one wished to lie or sit in the water. The owners and receptionist were extremely helpful and organised some excellent day trips for me, as well as my transfer from and back to Cairns Airport. I would thoroughly recommend the trip to the Daintree Rainforest and of course the Great Barrier Reef. There were many good restaurants close to the hotel so I never used the BBQ provided for the guests to use.
The Meridian Port Douglas is a quiet all adult hotel close to the main street of Port Douglas. Had a standard bachelor room overlooking the pool which I would recommend requesting otherwise there are rooms that overlook Davidson St. a busy through
street. Rooms are smaller than appearing in photos but are adequate. We made most of our meals or had take away so another time might consider a larger room with a more complete kitchen.
Housekeeping is not provided unless staying at least a week and enough shampoo and soap are provided for one day only. This is an inconvenience for international travellers like ourselves who face restrictions on weight and liquids. Laundry is available and a nice feature.
Port Douglas is a small town catering to the tourists and there are many excursions by many different companies being offered. We chose to snorkel with Calypso and tour the Daintree Rainforest with the Daintree Discovery tour through
Tropical Journeys since both of these excursions were small and able to give attention to the individual.
We loved this home-away-from-home!! It was within walking distance to the 4 mile beach and downtown shops and restaurants. We had a standard studio which was small, but very comfortable and the price was right!! I e-mailed the hotel ahead of
time and got lots of info about tours to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Forest etc. After checking the web sites, I let the hotel staff book everything for us. At one point we had to change dates and they made it very easy. They were so friendly and made our stay very enjoyable.

Short walk from hotel
We enjoyed the happy hour drink specials and daily dinner specials at the Lure Restaurant on the Marina and the Court House restaurant and bar downtown.
