few days in Cairns
This is a good hotel choice for the area. It is in a good location, right on the main strip, walking distance to the ferry terminal, esplanade lagoon pool, boardwalk, and shops, restaurants. The pool area is nice, the room comfortable with a balcony, and the staff professional and pleasant. Would recommend this hotel as a good value in the area.

Excursion to Cains...
The room was large, nice, and had a great view. Bathroom seemed a bit old (some mold/dirt in corners of tile), bit overall was nice. Would have been nice to have microwave as well. And there should be a warning sign on the stairs stating that the doors are locked from the inside and once in the stairwell you cannot get out - had to call the front desk from my cell phone - and was told that the stairs are not for floor-to-floor travel. But that's a minor thing, really. I'm pretty sure I'd stay here again.

Trip to Cairnes Dec 2011
Nice Hotel. The walkways and Halls in the hotel need updating. The rooms were adequate and clean. Staff were friendly and the Pool was nice. It would have been nice if the Spa (Hot tub was hot instead of the same pool temperature

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Very expensive to eat in Australia. Plan on bringing lots of cash and you will need to get over the shell shock of how expensive eating and drinking is in Australia

Great view
We booked an oceanfront room and ended up on the 5th floor (532) with great views onto the bay. The room was comfortable enough that we caught ourselves hanging out in there a little too long when we should've been out on the verandah or strolling around town or on the esplanade. However our last night the toilet kept running so you had to unstick the mechanism and the following a.m. we had an early flight ,got up to take hot shower and there was none. Don't know what was going on with that because we had no problems the previous day. If we ever have occasion to go back I would definately stay here though.

It's an older style hotel, but
It's an older style hotel, but our ocean facing room was great and very spacious. Excellent location as very close to all the restaurants. Also liked the pool and sundeck.

The hotel is a typical "big" hotel,
The hotel is a typical "big" hotel, guests are anonymous but this isnt a problem for us. It is very well positioned and has good facilities although we never used them and can only comment on impressions. The room was quite clean but the aircon duct was very dirty and there was some mould the in the shower but otherwise it was fine. The reception staff seemed very helpful and friendly and attended to a couple of minor queries with efficiency. However, what will take us back to that hotel is the concern showed to us by Charles at reception when we arrived there at about 6 am after an all night flight from Perth. The plane landed at 4h30 am and we were exhausted not having slept on the plane, he organised an early check in for us which allowed us to catch up on a few hours sleep before exploring Cairns. We would definitely stay here again if we ever return to Cairns.
