Nickel & Dime Hotel

The hotel is far from the city. The hotel buffet breakfast is overpriced. They advertised electrical adaptors but don't have any. If you want an extra towel to take to the beach, extra charge. If you want to take the hotel shuttle to the city, extra charge. If you want to access the internet, extra charge. The TV has a whopping 4 channels. Bugs in and outside the room

far from everything

The room was as big as a small bedroom and there were tiny ants everywhere. The pools were freezing cold and there is no hot tub or anything like that. The people at the front desk were helpful but acted as if you were bothering them every time you asked a question. We were far from any shops and any restaurants, at least a ten min drive. We were a thirty min. drive from the beach. It cost money every day to use the room safe. The hotel had a bus that went to the shops and restaurants for 8 dollars each for every use. The hotel had one place that sold a 21 dollar breakfast which served the same exact thing every day but not lunch or dinner. The floor drain in the bathroom brought up soap suds in the middle of the floor after every shower. The television only showed four channels all of which were always on the news. This hotel looks nice but its NOT in a nice area! While walking down the street we were threatened by a bum for not giving money. The hotel also serves as an apartment building. You can hear any noise outside of or next to your room clearly. I know it is a good price but considering how it will effect your experience I would upgrade.

If you want to eat anywhere other than fast food your best bet is the hotel bus that will either take you into town for 8 dollars or the sister restaurant in the other hotel for free.

This hotel is in the suburbs of

This hotel is in the suburbs of Cairns, near a shopping centre with some fast food as well as other eating places within 150m walk. I have always found the rooms to be clean and providing basic motel equipment such as a safe, iron and ironing board, toiletries, tea/coffee, air con etc - all for a very reasonable price. It is probably best to have your own transport, though city buses are very close, and the hotel offers a shuttle service. Staff at reception have always been very friendly and helpful.

I was very unimpressed at the way the hotel was described as being central, when it was some 15 minutes and a $20 taxi ride out of town. It was also in a desert of poor quality malls with almost no eating facilities, and certainly none that offered a reasonable or healthy option to the hotel's pricey (for what it was) breakfast. I thought the fact that there was no proper coffee, only some sort of instant, was pretty poor.

We enjoyed staying at this hotel.

We enjoyed staying at this hotel. We particularly liked the beautiful view of the pools and the palm trees. Everything was clean and the rooms were spacious enough. We stayed in a triple and a double room. The only drawback was that it is a bit far from the CBD, but they provide a shuttle bus to the airport and downtown. We would certainly stay there again.
