Private rooms, stunning views

If judged on nothing more than location then the Mercure Hotel Harbourside is a winner. The Mecure is located on the Cairns Esplanade and offers a break from the day's activities without taking guests off the beaten path. Guests seeking easy access to a good walking or jogging path need only run right out the hotel door. Many of the rooms -- all with private balconies -- offer stunning views of Trinity Bay or rainforest-covered mountain ranges. Teshi's Restaurant serves classic dishes with an Eastern flair.

Highlights
  • Private balconies with views of Trinity Bay or the mountains
  • Teshi's restaurant serves classic dishes infused with Eastern flavors
  • Located on the Esplanade
  • Just a few minutes' walk from the Great Barrier Reef departure point
Rooms

The already spacious rooms get a boost in status thanks to their private balconies. Contemporary but spare décor makes for a peaceful place to sleep. All rooms feature pay-per-view movies and high-speed Internet access. The studio and executive suites have kitchenettes for guests who prefer to prepare their own meals.

Features

Though it is difficult to look away from the views of Trinity Bay and the mountains, the well-attended tropical garden at Mercure Hotel have plenty of visual appeal.

Teshi's merges classic cuisine with Eastern influences. The restaurant is open every night from 6:30 p.m. The chef's signature dish is the seafood-of-the-day zuppa de pesce. Other menu items include a caramelized pork belly served with Chinese greens in sesame vinegar, and confit duck leg with duck and pistachio sausage. The restaurant also serves a daily breakfast buffet. The buffet includes Asian food items, tropical fruits, cereals, juices, hot food items, and pastries.

Blue Mango, the hotel's bar, pairs wine, beer, and an extensive cocktail list with views of Trinity Bay.

Loved this hotel

This hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the Central Business District, but they provide shuttle service and we enjoyed being at the quiet end of the beach. The staff was very helpful. The pool was being remodeled so it will be even better when that happens. We loved the view from our balcony! I would recommend this hotel to anyone who does not mind not being in the big middle of all the action!

Great family getaway

Stayed 4 nights at the Mercure Cairns Harbourside March 24th 2014 with my wife and daughter. Room great size, very clean and comfortable, all the amenities in a room that you require. Front desk staff always had a smile on their face and greeted you when you walked by. They went out of their way to book a local trip for you. They didn't try to sell you the trips but listened to what you wanted to see or do then they would give great advise as to the best trip to suit our needs. The swimming pool was out of order new pool area being constructed, saw the blue prints would love to be there when it is finished. If you wanted to go pool side they would shuttle you to a local hotel with a pool no charge. Speaking of shuttling. Every hour they would drive you to the town centre and pick you up if you were waiting to take you back to the hotel. Can't say enough the Canadians had a very enjoyable visit to Cairns and an even better stay at the Mercure. You can't go wrong at this establishment. Taggarts Fort Frances, Ont Canada

Staff with bad attitude

Not so good experience. Location is far from the pier area. Staff was rude, seems understaffed. Breakfast buffet was expensive for the food type/variety ($52 for 2 people). Room service menu is very limited, mosty targeted to indian people.

Friendly and helpful staff

The staff was excellent in assisting with restaurant recommendations and helping to book tours for the Great Barrier Reef. The shuttle service to the main city center was easy to use and saved me for paying for a taxi or walking.

Fantastic stay from an unexpected layover

I'm in Australia on holiday for most of November 2012. All of my hotel and flight arrangements were made earlier in the year. I had booked a flight from Port Douglas to Sydney mid-month when the airline contacted me days before to inform me that I have a two-day flight delay. I scrambled to find a place to stay that was close to Cairns Airport when I found the hotel on the website. It received great reviews and I really needed something good to come out of my unfortunate layover so I booked the room. Mission accomplished! The staff was beyond friendly, providing me with maps about town and even giving me some suggestions on places to visit. The room was really nice (it felt like an executive suite) and had an amazing view of the beach. I was simply in awe. I would definitely recommend and book another stay.

Nice staff, good services

we were in Cairns for 5 days for Xmas holiday, the hotel is very nice, get a ocean view room, face to the sea and enjoy the nice breeze. the hotel staff are really friendly, and room services is quick and price is reasonable. have hotel bus to the central city every hour, if you walk, will take 30 mins to the city, but we enjoyed the quiet location.

Stay Some Place Else

Worse hotel I have stayed at during my travels. Had to wait an additional hour for my room, they lost my luggage in the hotel while they were making me wait. They have basic television and the room service was not good. I had to call to complain about the fact that there was no hot water. Don't bother staying here- save your money and go some place else.
