Budget-friendly hotel in prime downtown location
Downtown location makes it easy for guests to explore Cairns. The Cairns Esplanade, popular walking spot for residents and visitors, is just two blocks from the front door. Budget-friendly but far from generic, the Hides offers old-world charm, with complimentary continental breakfast served daily on the wide colonial-style veranda. The porch also provides a good spot for people-watching during evening hours. Rooms are spacious.

Don't expect much
Dried blood on the mattress and loud drunks in the street outside until 4am (at least). I expected the latter, anyway.

Hides Hotel is an older hotel, very centrally located in Cairns C.B.D. my room with toilet and shower was average with the option of A.Con. or open windows but no view. The inclusive continental breakfast on the upstairs veranda was adequate in a pleasant setting. the price offered value for money.

i thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
i thoroughly enjoyed my stay. the breakfast had a good selection, raisin toast a big plus! Sitting on the verandah - very pleasant. the view from my window was a brick wall of the building next door, but the location was excellent, right in the cbd heart. only con was that there was no luggage storage unless you wanted to pay $6 for a locker, i thought they could just look after my bag for a couple hrs before my flight.

Charming yet mismatched
I only stayed for a few nights since my reef tour was leaving from Cairns. The lady at the front desk was very nice and welcoming, the veranda was a great place to relax and have breakfast, but the noise at night didn't end till the wee hours of the morning. The rooms were also a little mismatched...the door knobs were extra high and seat infront of desk was extra low, not a deal breaker, but a little strange. Also, I had problems with the the lock on my door at times, and when I asked someone else at the front desk about it, he was a little rude, stating he wasn't a maintenance man and couldn't help me.

Great inexpensive hotel in Cairns
Fabulous location in center of Cairns 2 blocks from Reef Marina. Simple, clean, no frills rooms. Shared bathroom. Excellent price. Lovely continental breakfast buffet on 2nd floor open air veranda overlooking walkway through center of Cairns. They even lend you a free towel to use on the dive boats on the Great Barrier Reef!!!
