Quiet motel just blocks from the Cairns Esplanade

The residential location of Heritage Cairns makes it easy for guests to jump in and out of the local action. The hotel is just two blocks from the restaurants, bars, and shops that line the Cairns Esplanade. Several of the rooms feature balconies or a sliding door onto a garden. Families and budget travelers in need of a break from restaurant meals will appreciate the on-site barbecue provided for guest use.

Highlights
  • Walking distance to the waterfront, restaurants, bars, and shopping
  • Quiet location on a residential street
  • Outdoor pool, hot tub, and barbecue for guest use
Rooms

Heritage Cairns has 45 rooms and suites -- some with balconies or garden access. The room accommodations feature contemporary décor. All rooms have wireless Internet access. DVD players are available upon request. All rooms except for studio rooms feature separate bedrooms and lounging areas. Travelers who prefer to eat meals at home should opt for one- or two-bedroom suites that feature kitchenettes with a microwave, sink, table, and chair.

Features

The budget-friendly Heritage Cairns sits just far enough out of downtown to provide guests with a quiet break from activity or a place to get some work done. With many of the best restaurants and bars in Cairns just blocks away, it will not be a chore to dash back to the property to change for dinner after a day of snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef.

Travelers who choose to spend time at the hotel will find much to enjoy. The motel is not just on any old residential street -- it sits on one in a tropical climate. Guests who spend their time lounging by the outdoor pool or in the hot tub are treated to views of palm trees and other native plants.

Heritage Cairns is a budget-friendly motel that does not skimp on comfort. The property features Internet access, a pool, hot tub, and, best of all, peace and quiet.

Great place to stay. Staff are brilliant.

This is a very convenient place to stay. It's fantastic value for money and has all the sort of things you would expect in a medium price motel. The outstanding aspect of the Heritage are the staff. For instance, Bruce the temporary manager, gave us a lift down to the centre of town in the motel's car as it as raining very hard. He also dropped us off at the marina so that we could do a tour. All free of charge.

Great cairns base for the family

We booked an 'executive suite', which turned out to be two rooms behind a door at one end of the corridor, meaning we could shut the door and go from the kids room to our own without bumping in to any other guests, which was very useful. Great to be separate from the children, yet still connected and reassured by giving them one of our key cards, and us holding one of theirs. Pool was freezing though.

Cairns experience

A nice place with moderate accommodations. Although booked as a suite, it was in fact two adjoining hotel rooms with a walk through door. This was a bit disappointing given how the"2 bedroom suite" was described and pictured. All in all, a good experience but not quite what was expected given the photos and description .

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

Access by car is a bit convoluted given how the streets are arranged with pass throughs and bypasses.

Great location, budget friendly!

We only spent one brief night at the Heritage - had a late flight in and left fairly early the next morning for Green Island, so unfortunately we didn't stay long enough that I could fully review this accommodation but everything we experienced while staying there was great. Rosemary was invaluable from start to finish. We had actually chosen this place from the reviews about her and she did not disappoint! We emailed her before our trip to let her know about our late arrival and she was so accommodating, she let us know how we could get in after hours, etc, but it turned out she was there to greet us after all. She is friendly, funny, and very helpful with suggestions, directions and she even drove us to the ferry terminal the next day, saving us a sweaty walk with all of our luggage! The room was very basic but clean (bonus, there is an elevator!), quiet and comfortable and the whole hotel is decorated with gorgeous photos and artwork she has collected from Papa New Guinea, a great touch. Good quality for the price, and a convenient location, would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a nice, budget hotel.

no staff after 9pm-6a.m.

We've just been there in Oct. We like the spacious and tidy room but the worst thing is the reception is not 24 hr on duty and the reception counter closed at 9pm. We think it's very inconvenient to travellers. We travelled to many places, but it's our first time to have our check-in without the receptionist giving us a key! That night, we arrived at 11:20 pm. We saw the front door with dim light, The door was not opened automatically. The staff put our room key in a key safe. That's really a bad idea because at first we couldn't find the key safe and rang the bell of the hotel. The staff wore a piece of pajamas came out, but she didn't open the door to let us in! she just watched us. we felt bad to wake someone up, but in fact we need to go in and need someone service us! so I think they should hire someone to do shift duty at night to help customers. the other day, we woke up very early for the hot air balloon flight. We didn't see our pick up coach at the assigned time. We were worried. We wanted to call them up or needed help from our hotel! Again, off their office hours, we can't get any help from them! We could just wait the coach for half an hour! If there was a staff there, they could help us to call the company to ask what's going on! This is really the biggest problem of the hotel. It's not close to main street and pier either. We always walk in our city. On the map, there are 4-5 blocks away from the centre. However, We found out that it's a very long way, takes you about 20 minutes to the pier and you will get tired after a big trip to Great Barrier Reef. One gd thing is they helped us to book the coach to the airport when we left, which was cheaper than sunpalm.

Great Value

This is not the fanciest place to stay in Cairns but if you are staying in Cairns it is probably because you are out enjoying the reef or the rainforest or the thousands of other things to do besides staying in your hotel room. If you are looking for a comfortable quiet place to sleep and need something more than a backpacker hostel - this is the place.

Basic but very comfortable and friendly

The hotel is a good value for the money. While the pool isn't great everything else was nice. The BBQ and outdoor dinning areas and the staff was very helpful.

Nice little place off away from the hustle bustle

Had a good stay at the Heritage - nice rooms, great staff. A little bit further from central Cairns than many other hotels but this makes for a peaceful stay while still being a quick walk to the shops.

Very helpful management

The manager was extremely kind and helpful, and twice offered to drive us to town in bad weather, which made our rained-out stay more memorable. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes' walk from town activities, which is not a problem if the weather is pleasant. One major plus is that this hotel offers 2 hours of free computer access.

Rosemary is the best

Rosemary mans the front desk and is very enthusiastic and warm. She helped us make reservations for different activities we wanted to do. She was always ready with a smile and curious as to what we thought of the excursions. She is a true gem.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

For a real good meal for not a lot of money, visit the Cock and Bull. One meal feeds two easily.
