Central business district modern hotel recalls a Mondrian painting
A modern exterior welcomes guests to the Diamant Hotel Brisbane. Located in Brisbane’s central business district, the non-smoking property’s range of services appeals to both leisure and business travelers. Diamant’s modern good looks continue inside the lobby and in the hotel’s 84 rooms.
Highlights
  • Decor appeals to design fans and guests who prefer rooms that are not fussy
  • Hotel in heart of Brisbane’s central business district
  • Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and room service
Rooms
Diamant Hotel’s modern decor features clean lines and rich yet soothing colors. The color palette includes deep browns paired with bold aqua accents. Rooms have 38-inch plasma televisions with cable or satellite service and in-room pay movies. Some rooms have private balconies overlooking the city.
Features
O Bar & Restaurant features an international menu designed to highlight local produce from Brisbane’s markets. The menu changes but a sample of recent dishes includes pan-roasted spring lamb with a mustard thyme crust and sautéed duck breast with cauliflower puree. A bar snack menu takes the edge off of hunger between meals. The restaurant also features a cocktail lounge where guests unwind after a day of touring or business.

Diamant Hotel

I found the staff at Diamant Hotel to be very helpful going beyond what I would have expected. Parking is the biggest issue however this is typical of the area and any big city, you will need to either pay for a parking garage or get lucky like I did and grab one of the very few street parking spots. I chose this hotel for its general location and was great for the weekend stay. I didn't actaully use all the amenities.

The room was very modern and clean

The room was very modern and clean with good facilities but on the small side. Very comfortable bed and nice bathroom/roomy shower. Very quiet location but walking distance from Railway, city centre and south bank. Staff very helpful and friendly. Only gripe was that there was no table/desk to work on - went to bar downstairs instead which still connected to the hotel internet. Would certainly book in there again if I got a good deal like this time.

Originally The Portal, Brisbane

Originally The Portal, Brisbane Diamant is a very convenient boutique hotel offering all that is required for the overnight business traveller. The rooms are small but functional. Some rooms have a nice balcony. Excellent and friendly service. A good restaurant with interesting menu.

Pretty Good

Reviewers have noted that the rooms at The Portal are quite small. I upgraded to a Prestige King and did fine by myself. It would have been hard to share the room with a second person unless we were REALLY compatible. Other reviewers have accurately pointed out that the bathroom is poorly lit. I took a hand mirror along and put on my makeup by daylight by standing near the patio door. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly, also as noted by others. The best thing about this room was that it was so quiet! I heard nothing from any other rooms and did not hear the elevator even though my room was adjacent to the shaft. Two things annoyed me: 1. The closet had a refrigerator in it, so clothes that were hanging did not have adequate room to hang straight. Instead, longer skirts and jackets laid on the top of the refrigerator. (And there were no drawers.) 2. The shower smelled like cat urine, apparently coming from the drain. On some days the smell wafted throughout the room. I am 50-50 about whether I would stay here again.

Look Elsewhere

Good central location within walking distance of the central station. Friendly but useless staff. Lovely Eagle street pier was easily within walking distance and they didn't mention it. Miniscule room for the price. Mattress was shot. HVAC did not work. Look elsewhere
