From the marble foyer to its uniquely shaped exterior, Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel is a retreat in the wilderness of Kakadu National Park. Just a 2.5hr drive from Darwin, the hotel is the only full service hotel in Kakadu and is the ideal base to explore the Ubirr, Nourlangie and Jim Jim areas.

Kakadu Explorer base

We found the hotel a convenient starting point for exploring all the Kakadu points of interest. Touring anywhere in Kakadu will generally involve travelling for up to an hour, but this hotel a comfortable base from which to start, or to just relax in. The restaurant was of a very good standard and the staff were quite helpful. A good experience overall.

Room condition does not match value

There is the musty smell in the room. there was not enough bath towels. Badly needs a facelift and maintenance.

Unacceptable service

Check in staff were friendly however we had booked for three persons but room was only prepared for two. 2 towels, 2 cups, 4 teabags and no pillow on sofa bed. Our bed had hair on the bed linen. Perhaps from the housemaid? We booked at the restaurant for 7:45pm dinner and arrived at that time. We got our dinner just short of an hour later. We ordered a side of steamed greens but got a green salad instead. We sent it back and got our steamed greens. There were no serviettes on the table. We asked for some but they never came. In fact no waiter came near us for the rest of the evening. We had eye fillet steak that was tough and we needed steak knives but couldn't get them for the same reason. We would have liked a refill of water. Same thing and then to top it off, we were billed for the steamed greens AND the green salad! Then to top that off, I did not get the sleep I had expected. The alarm, presumably set by a previous guest and not turned off by the housekeepers, woke us up at 5:00am and I could no't get back to sleep. The service, meal quality and price in the restaurant along with paying for expensive accommodation which was not appropriately prepared and then being rudely awakened in the early hours does not warrant any kudos at all. I filled out a hotel feedback form with all this information and gave it to the clerk at the front desk. I got no response to it. Did the manager not see it? Did the reception clerk perhaps file it in bin 13 to protect her colleagues? No outcome is not a happy outcome

If you haven't been there , GO , we loved it.

Front of house well presented, reception staff very friendly and efficient and made us feel welcome. Evening meal in the dining room, very busy, but well worth the short wait with a couple of drinks in the lounge. The Maitre D (a kiwi), was efficient, obliging and friendly and soon had the 4 of us seated at our table, wait staff were also cheerful, informative and simply just good at their job. Whenever we passed a local i.e. staff member we were greeted with friendliness. As is oft said "YOU WILL NEVER NEVER KNOW IF YOU NEVER EVER GO."

Much left to be desired

Front desk staff were good however we were 3 guests and our room had only 2 towels, 2 cups and 4 teabags. Not a big deal in itself but there's more. Our dinner reservation at the restaurant was for 7.45. Had to call a waiter to take our order and was almost 8.45 when we got our meals. Part of it was not as ordered so had that exchanged for what we did order. When our meals were served we asked for serviettes, which were not on the table, but did not get them. Two orders were eye fillet steak which were less than tender and we would have liked steak knives and we also would have liked a water refill but no waiter came anywhere near our table for the rest of the evening so we were left wanting. Then we were billed for both the correct and incorrect order! Most annoying of all was that the alarm from a previous guest was not cancelled by the housekeeping staff and woke us at 5.00 am after which I could not get back to sleep. Overall, service is very slack. I left a guest's survey form with the front desk at check out with all these details expecting a response but I'm still waiting. They don't appear to be too concerned, hence my rating of one star.

Good base for exploring

I have previously been to Kakadu and stayed elsewhere, nothing wrong with the other accommodation, but we were only here for 2 nights and wanted somewhere more central. The front desk staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was confortable and clean. We really enjoyed our stay, the only negative being we forgot to book in for dinner on the second night and had to wait until 8.30 for dinner. You don't have any other choices, you have to eat here, so this was a negative, although you could get the same menu as room service for approx the same price. It is closer to the attractions in Kakadu than other alternatives, and I would definitely choose this hotel if coming here again.

Buy bulk bottled water in Darwin. It will save you a lot of money, and don't forget the insect repellant

Nice time away

My holiday at the hotel was lovely, the staff were good and friendly, the service was good, the rooms were clean and made up daily just an all round good hotel. The only critisim would be that the cocktails weren't fantastic they were nice but not great. I would defenitly holiday there again. Outside the hotel there were alot of sites and walks and plunge pools to discover.

Great service

Thank you to the wonderful team at Gagudju Crocodile! Everyone was helpful and welcoming. Jabiru itself was a let down, I was expecting more and any attractions were so far to get to that we didnt get to see anything. Three of the people I travelled with went on Yellow Waters Fishing Tour, and it didnt live up to its reputation, in that ONLY 1 undersize Barra was caught :( ... on that though we have scince found out that we were there around the wrong time of year, end of Oct. On the up side when we did arrive at Gagudju Crocodile the man who helped us couldn't do enough without us even asking. We arrived early, before 12pm, and our rooms weren't ready but he found us rooms that were ready and then when I asked about him booking the fishing tour he was only too happy to call and try book AND then even though they were all booked out he arranged for another tour guide!!! FANTASTIC
