Less than stellar
This hotel seems like someone had a great idea but just can't execute very well. There were many little things lacking that when you add them up make you feel like you are getting a half-baked experience. The room seems like they wanted to go ultra-modern W-style but forgot about any artistic style (there is nothing on the gray walls, not even a generic painting/picture). The shower concept is great (glass wall separating the rest of the bathroom, but the tile is cheap and water runs into the rest of the bathroom). Many little things like faucet-handles, etc. were loose, the shower by the upstairs pool was in a dirty bathroom and only had cold water, the outdoor chairs were torn and broken, etc. Even one of the clothes dryers was broken for a long period without ever being fixed. Internet was free wireless for 3 hours, but they wanted $24.95 for plugging in, which doesn't make sense. Also, the wireless was only allowed for one device so forget it if you have two iPhones and an iPad. From a service standpoint, the staff was nice but they just didn't have the right answers to help solve issues. The after-hours entry key-card reader was always broken but they never put up a sign telling guests that, even after we suggested. The cleaning staff was not willing to come back 10 minutes later to give us some flexibility, etc. There are too many things to list. I worry that they are entering a spiral where budget is tight so they are letting little things go, causing less guests, and less budget, etc. If some initial investment for design, remodeling, and fixing was put in and a competent owner was brought in I bet this place could turn around as the concept and location are great. I will be coming back to Sydney but will not book The Marque again given the plethora of other choices in the same price range. P.S. Be cautioned that checkout time is 10:00am and they will only extend it to 11:00am for free if you are lucky. This might be standard in Sydney, but I'm not sure.

Didn't appreciate having the cleaning
Didn't appreciate having the cleaning staff tell me when my room needed to be cleaned. Would have been nice to have two towels given two people were staying there. Definitely not a 5 star hotel as per there self rating.

Not a picture on the walls, restaurant
Not a picture on the walls, restaurant hardly ever open, a real minimalist hotel. The staff is ok, but they are always in a little room off the front desk and you feel like you are intruding. You never feel like they appreciate your business. I would pass on this one.

On the edge of town
Room was nice enough, but no 24 desk clerk.desk closed by 11PM. Very moldy smelly on our floor - 9th. Obviously a roof leak that was remedied with corrugated boxes. Very lax in picking up room service trays and rooftop pool chairs all broken. Otherwise fine. Breakfast the same everyday. Gets boring after a few days.

Returning from USA
The staff were very helpful and cheerful, our rooms were ready early which was a blessing after our long flight home. The rooms however are very noicey. Location is great because it is within walking distance to most places and the free bus goes straight past for trips to the harbour. However I do think that this is the reason also for the noice of traffic all night and people shouting and making a fuss walking past outside.

Take the Green Line from the Airport. You can buy the return and the Purple Pass at the Airport ticket window for less than A$80. This lets you travel on all the Metro, buses, and Ferries in the Sydney area for a week. Go to Marketplace (open Wed-Sun) next to Chinatown to do your souvenier shopping. You'll save a lot of $$$ there.

Good location
I liked the internet cafe, 5 doors down the street which was $5.00 for 5 hours. Used this cafe to make plans for bus tours, and next hotel reservation, kept in touch with families. Hotel didn't have internet due to security reason, even though room had a connection to your laptop which I didn't have. Staff was helpful, and friendly.

Good location for exploring Sydney
We chose this hotel for the price, the location and generally decent reviews. It's not going to leave you feeling excited about what an amazing place it was but for the price it was clean, friendly and perfectly good. We were annoyed they charge just to make local phone calls and getting internet in our room was a pain but everything else was great. The rooftop pool is pretty cool.

Overall the hotel was good for
Overall the hotel was good for the price. The room was small but the bed was comfy. The main problem was that we had no fresh air. Other hotels let you open the window - even if it is only a few inches. With the room being so small it made for very stuff sleeping. The airconditioning worked but was noisy.
