close to Darling Harbor

Unusual setting for a hotel. Really an apartment building that has rooms available per night or week etc. Room was OK. Eventually figured out a way to walk across the street thru a parking garage across the railroad track to Darling Harbor, which is beautiful. Paid $85 for week of unlimited internet service and it was VERY slow. Several calls to front desk wasn't very helpful but they did seem to want to help.

So convenient.

I had rung before hand and asked for a room with a balcony on a high level (quieter and more light). We had paid extra for a harbour view. (worth every cent) Level 11 room 1121. When I first walked into the unit I was very displeased. No balcony and the view was tainted by a huge building that was half demolished. The freeway was right THERE, almost under us. I was ready to go down and ask for a room change. But But... we then went for a walk. We found ourselves in the midst of loads of interesting sights and activity. People and cafes everywhere. The Pyrmont historical walk bridge lead us to the city - we'd only been walking for 15 minutes. We walked around the buzzy Darling Harbour and enjoyed the music and activity. As evening came we enjoyed the view from lounge window of all the amazing lights of Darling Harbour and the city. The Freeway added rather than detracted from the scene. At 9pm we were treated to fireworks (every Saturday evening on Darling Harbour). The rest of the week we walked to (found an easy access to D Harb through carpark) or caught the very convenient public transport - Light rail outside the building, bus to city at Darl Har Maritime Museum, Free shuttle up and down George St the city, Ferry from Darling Harbour. Each day we used the well equipped gym or swam in the 25m lap pool. Also watched with interest the further demolition of the building. Hotel staff very helpful and pleasant. Lift a bit slow but got used to it. Noisy as freeway close. Fine when windows closed. Windows only open slightly but aircon works well. Room serviced daily. Washing facilities and Kitchen make it convenient and keeps down costs.Supermarkets close. The proximity to the city and all the cafes and attractions make this a perfect place to stay. We stayed for a week and will go again.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

1. Go to level 2, out of lift, turn left and follow walkway to end of building, turn right onto carpark walkway. Follow signs which will take you to Harbourside shopping and cafe centre and Darling Harbour. Left down to level 4 takes you to Light rail station. 2. IGA supermarket opposite Novotel is the best for all groceries.

Good location

This is an apart hotel. Initial studio on floor seven rear, was poor with very little natural light. Moved to floor ten and completely different. Natural light and recently refurbished studio, this studio was brilliant.

Couldn't be better

Everything was perfect. Every possible amenity in our apartment, even down to washing powder and tea- towels, replaced every day. Wonderful view over Darling Harbour. Really central. Quiet and perfectly clean. Staff always friendly, courteous and helpful, but unobtrusive. We were delighted. The only downside was waiting for the lift, which could take quite a while at busy times.

Immigrant detention centre

My boyfriend and I walked in the second entrance and literally burst into laughter. The hotel is literally low quality apartments that have indoor patios making it look like an immigrant detention centre or the projects. Our view from our studio room was of a painted brick wall, the bed was terrible, and everything else was terrible quality. IT IS NOT A FOUR STAR. The only good thing was the location, and price at 160 per night. We were locked in the staircase for 20 minutes with what appeared to be the entire cast from Rent, as the fire doors are locked on the inside. Also, staff were wearing face masks- retrospectively I should have asked of they were complimentary. My boyfriend proceeded to talk like we were in the ghetto for the remainder of our trip, needless to say I would never stay there again. You get what you pay for in Pyrmont Harbour I suppose.

Inexpensive hotel near Darling Harbour

The hotel has seen better days. It was a wool warehouse from 1896until a fire in 1935. It was refurbished after the fire and converted into a hotel in 1955. The interior resembles a clean prison block but it is not unpleasant, just a quirky appearance. The pool and spa area is good. It is about ten minutes walk from Darling Harbour and very good value. No ramps for disabled people.
