Hotel address: 161 Sussex Street, Sydney, NS, Australia 2000
Sydney.
Sydney Airport.
The hotel is located on the city side of Darling Harbour overlooking the water and the Sydney Aquarium. Sydney Opera House and the Rocks are just a short bus ride away. Across from the hotel are Cockle Bay and King Street Wharf area with many great restaurants and bars. There is a direct access to the Sydney Aquarium from the hotel via a walkway.
The Corn Exchange Restaurant is located in the lobby and is well regarded amongst locals for its seafood buffet and a la carte dining. There is a lobby bar situated just in front of the entrance to the restaurant. Outdoor dining in a peaceful courtyard adjacent to the restaurant is also available. Located at the front of the hotel entrance, you will find the Dundee Arms pub. Though to be Sydney's 4th oldest pub, it is small and quaint and is heritage listed. The hotel now operates it, and it is open for drinks and meals. Legend has it that the upstairs of the pub is inhabited by a friendly ghost.

We were in sydney for just 24 hours, but the hotel made our stay wonderful! We arrived at 8am, and they let us use their ... fitness facilites to shower/get ready. Our bags were in our room by the time (10am) came back from breakfast! the staff is very helpful and sincere (and they don't even work on tips)! We would recommend staying here...location is few blocks from city center and back is to darling harbor (aquarium, measure, restaurants). The price is bit high, but they make up for the cost with service!

Several blocks down frm hotel is Chinatown with plenty of inexpensive food courts for a quick but excellent array of Chinese/Thai/Malaysian cuisine open til 10PM. Chinatown shops sell lots of souvenirs priced at least 30 to 50% less than the uptown George Street area(except Woolworths) but most close at 6 to 7PM. Woolworths, across from Town Hall, is the place to stock up on souvenir t-shirts/baseball caps and their basement supermarket is excellent for rotisserie chicken, water, baked goods, and other things you can stock up on if you do not want to pay top prices for meals at the hotel.

At the suggestion of our concierge, we tried to use the free transit bus to get to Circular Quay. First day it never came because it closed earlier than we were told- took an hour to find that out. Second day we waited and waited but it never came to where we were told it would come. Finally gave up and took the regular bus, only to find out at the end of the day about the ferry that started below our hotel and went to CQ. Take the ferry! It was faster than the bus and the trip much more fun.

Although we asked for a non-smoking room, we had to wait an hour while they went through the "final cleaning procedures" ... which we found out later on when we entered the room was the hotel's efforts to remove the smoke scent that lingered on from the previous occupant's smoking habits. They tried to disinfect with the most offensive-smelling spray that I had to call Front Desk holding my nose to prevent inhaling the smell. They moved us to another room 5 floors up which was fine except the toilet would not stop running after being flushed and although they tried to move us to another room at almost midnight, we declined that offer that night but moved the next morning to a room that smelled faintly of that disinfectant. I asked for the room to be aired and they sent up a small device that was plugged onto an outlet and since we were out most of the day, seemed to dissipate the unpleasant but faint smell by the time we got back at night. Check-in staff we dealt with were "OK" but not very welcoming(compared to hotels in Southeast Asia, but then this is Australia!), concierge, telephone staff, restaurant staff were good. After the 2nd transfer to another room, I spoke to the General Manager who graciously listened to what I had to say and offered to give us credit for the first nite but I opted for dinner at the restaurant instead. He met us that night and apologized for the inconvenience we went through. Overall, the hotel rooms(other than the smoking smell)were keptvery clean and were nicely furnished with damask cotton bed linens, ample bath towels and toiletries but we had a view of the building across the street, since we did not pay the extra charge for a harbour view. The location is excellent as the hotel is right on Darling Harbour with the Acquarium, Maritime Museum, lots of shopping and dining options, Coles supermarket, wine shops just across the bridge. The Little Red Snail across the bridge offered an excellent 3-course prix fixe dinner(40% less at lunchtime) but no bread is offered unless you order the ones listed on the menu and is charged extra. The buffets offered at the hotel were very good but pricey.

Quality hotel, at a price
LCPower Sep 16, 2009
We wanted a hotel on the harbor and a room with a view. Didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. The price for our room with ... kingsize bed and a view was less than the other advertised hotels of quality, but still more than we wanted to pay. Rooms in the Darling Harbour area tend to be overpriced. Our room was small but clean and comfortable. The kingsize bed was huge and so took up a lot of space; the one sitting chair in the room fit only awkwardly in a cramped corner by the window. But the night view from our room was spectacular. On the third morning I noticed a cigarette smoke smell coming from the bathroom vents of our non-smoking room/floor. Staff came to investigate and were unsure where it was from. They eventually concluded that another guest on our floor had [cheated] lit up, hence the draft into our room. That was a bummer. Concierge was very helpful. We also loved that the hotel sat right above the Sydney Aquarium and, it turned out, above the docking spot for a ferry to Circular Quay as well as close to the walking bridge across the harbour. Very convenient! Can't comment on the food-- it looked really good but was very pricey, so we ate elsewhere. My one big frustration was discovering, just a few days after we booked, that a Book 2 Nights Get the Third Night Free special popped up for our room category. We had waited two months for a good bargain and had finally settled with the best rate we could find with just a couple of weeks left before our trip, and *then* this deal comes up. Because our booking was prepaid, we were stuck, though I tried to appeal to hotel staff to no avail and with no recourse. Put a damper on what was otherwise an enjoyable stay overall. It was a good experience with the exception of the room rate issue.

It's not the most beautiful hotel...we also stayed at the Marriott Sydney Harbour, and while that hotel was more impressive ... looking, the in-room safe didn't work and the toilet was leaking. Whereas everything in our room at the Four Points was in perfect working order. The staff was also very friendly, and their breakfast buffet was great.
