superb service, location, and taste
Very elegant hotel, especially rooms. Very large bathroom with separate tub and shower. Excellent bed. Two very small problems in the room were repaired within (literally) minutes. Excellent location for major tourist and business sites in Sydney. Excellent staff. We strongly recommend this hotel.

Amora Jamison Sydney Australia
My boyfriend and I took a trip to Sydney to celebrate my promotion. I emailed the hotel ahead of time and they gave us a beautiful corner room with a spectacular view on the 27th floor--and had a bottle of champagne on ice waiting for us! It doesn't get better than that! We asked several different concierges about dinner restaurant suggestions and their 3 recommendations were superb for our tastes.

Short walk from hotel
A funky, fashionable, very "Sydney" restaurant called Steel Bar and Grill is a 5 minute walk from the Amora. We were booked in by the concierge and had a cocktail in the outdoor seating area first--the cocktail menu is very creative and the "Pink Lady" was delicious. We were sat at our table and the sommelier came up and recommended a wine for us. We started with wood-fired calamari which was fantastic. Our entrees were Veal Cutlet and I had the Pan Roasted Snapper. My boyfriend and I have been in hospitality for 18 and 13 years respectivley and are very particular and picky about food and wine and Steel delivered above and beyond. The staff were very personable and friendly and stood chatting away with us very naturally. I would recommend this restaurant to young couples who love well-thought out, exceptionally fresh and flavored modern food. It is great for people watching and the cocktail menu is fantastic. I would probably not recommend it to people with children or people who do not attempt "adventure" in food.

Great location
Great location to all major sights within walking distance, such as the Circular Quay, the Contemporary Museum of Art; Sydney Opera House, Queen Victoria Building; St. James. Also the Wynyard Station is just around the corner. The Blue Mountain day trip is well worth it.

Luxury hotel in financial district
Stellar first-class service without being overly superficial. Great service from each member of the staff. Loved the pillow menu and dentrifice kits. We got a corner room on the 4th floor that looked like a studio! Would have liked a plasma on the desk and fluffier towels, but loved the bathroom design and the firm mattress. Five minute walk from the Circular Quay (take a ferry to Taronga Zoo or Manly Beach) and the Rocks where you can shop at DFS Galleria or grab a beer. Highly recommend Pancake House, which is about a 200 meter walk.

Short drive from hotel
Take the Cityrail from the airport ($10 for students, $15 for regular) to the Wynard Station, which is a 2 min walk to two min walk to the hotel. It's much faster than any shuttle. Georges Street is also very close and they have the free 555 green/blue buses on the weekends that will take you up and down the city centre to the Queen Victoria Building, World Square and Paddy's Market.

You'll never open the door yourself!
I never touched the front door as the staff was always there to open the dor for us.Arrived at the hotel from our overnight international flight at 9am. I emailed 48 hrs ahead and they had a room for us right as we checked in. If you don't call ahead they probably wont have a room for you. Rooms are very large and first class. Bathrooms are almost as large as the bedroom. Bed is very comfortable and quiet. Nice lighting too.

Short walk from hotel
Lots of dinning options on the Rocks and Wharf area. About a 10 minute walk. Try the restaurants near the Hyatt hotel. There is Australian, italian and Chinese all in a row. All top notch. Look for the cruise terminal. There are some nice bars and dining options inside overlooking the opera house. USA tourists...remember tipping is not required at smaller restaurants that have you order at the counter then they bring it out. Tip max 10% at full service restaurants or where you get good service. They all are well paid!

We arrived at 8 am after an all-night flight and they were kind enough to let us check in early without any problems. The concierge was incredibly helpful in arranging tours and dinner reservations. We signed up for a Club room, which included free internet access and a nice continental breakfast and evening wine reception. A great value when you consider that internet access was normally $9.99 for 2 hours and breakfast was $30. Great central location with easy walking (<10 minutes)to Darling Harbour, central shopping district, Circular Quay, and the Rocks.

Amora in Sydney
We enjoyed our stay. The staff, especially the concierge, were most helpful. Nice extra touches, like fruit, provided. Although we arrived on a very early morning flight, the hotel had a room ready that they allowed us to check into at 9am, which was so nice. I would suggest a fresh duvet cover for each guest instead of the fancier one that is likely not changed between guests.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Look for souvenirs in Chinatown or at Paddy's Market. They sell the same merchandise as the shops on the harbor, but the asking prices are less, and they will bargain a discount.

Amora Jamison almost perfect!!
This was mine and my wife's first trip to Sydney and in fact Australia. The Amora Hotel was without a doubt one of the better things about the trip. They checked us in early, the bed was huge and comfortable, the bathroom was like a resort - gorgeous clear glass shower. It was very quiet, had a nice balcony facing the Rocks area, the room was big for the price and it's in a great location. The Rocks and Circular Quay are about a 5 minute walk, Darling Harbour and Kings Cross both about a 10 minute walk. The area around the hotel has a ton of amenities inlcuding quick access to Sydney's AWESOME rail system (Wynyard station). In the rail station is a cheap laundry (dont use the hotel for this, $$$$$) - a Coles (big grocery store with good prices) and a ton of little fast food restaurants. Mcdonalds is actually good here- as are Oporto (chicken/burgers) and Starbucks (2 within 3 blocks.) Within a few blocks in the Rocks are a lot of good Italian restaurants, lots of little tourist traps, souvenirs, etc. The only NON awesome thing about the Amora is the internet access - being from the USA, we expect cheap or free wifi everywhere we stay. Theirs in $10 for an hour or $50 for the week. It is slow, wired only and not fast. A hotel otherwise of this calibre should get with the program. I am more than willing to pay a few extra bucks to have the internet free. Get a clue, Amora. Otherwise highly recommended - but bring your aircard!!!

DONT take Sydney airport shuttles - do the CityRail if you can. The shuttle takes forever and they keep driving around until it's full. Complete waste of $24 a person.

Stylish, convenient comfort in the city
The Amora has it all, very stylish decor with a warm and inviting atmosphere, excellent staff and services, spacious (corner) rooms with great views, and a perfect location - walking distance to The Rocks, Circular Quay/Opera House/Botanical Gardens and Darling Harbour yet set away from the crowded tourist areas. The only negatives were the lack of cafes/restaurants open on weekend mornings within a two black radius (plenty in more touristy areas) and they need to replace the window shades that are falling apart. But the positives far outweigh the negatives.
