Good Value
Beautiful location and good food value (with the exception of the Krystal). The staff is very friendly and the all inclusive is a terrific value. If I had to give one criticism I would say that there wasn't much nightlife, but other than that this is a great place to relax and enjoy beautiful beaches and pool.

Super All Inclusive Option in Aruba
Our experience at this hotel was fantastic. The reviews posted here are very accurate. The service was impeccable. However, you absolutely do need to wake up early in order to get chairs at the pool and reservations at the non-buffet restaurants. We were only able to get a reservation one time out of 6 nights. But it was fine since the buffet restaurant was delicious and had a bunch to choose from. The pool is large and very inviting with optional poolside activities going on most of the day. The beach was also immaculate. I'd highly recommend a stay at the RIU if you like all inclusive.

"The good, the bad, and the really ugly"
My wife and myself were extremely disappointed in our recent stay at the RIU Palace in Aruba. This trip was supposed to be our honeymoon and we couldn't be more disappointed. I would like to go into detail about the problems that we encountered. We arrived from the airport by a local cab. When we checked in at the front desk it was around 3pm. We asked the person checking us in how we go about making reservations for a local restaurant called the Flying Fish Bone. The front desk person said that he would take care of it, and either call our room with a confirmation or send a confirmation letter to our room. He took down all of our information, including the time we wanted dinner reservations, and our room number. We then went to our room and found the bed to be very hard. We called room service and ask that a mattress pad be put on the bed. House keeping arrived soon thereafter and spoke very little English. The Housekeeper called someone on the phone and we were told there was already a pad on our bed, and that they didn't have any more mattress pads. They instead gave us a blanket to use for the evening. The person on the phone said there would be another pad put on in the morning. We went to the pool for a couple of hours to relax, and when we returned to our room around 5-5:30pm, there was no confirmation for dinner at the Flying Fish Bone. My wife proceeded to call the front desk and we were told no one made reservations, and the people that make reservations only work from 9am to Noon. This resulted in us having no where to eat that evening, so we went to the RIU's dinner buffet. The food at the buffet was poorly prepared and caused myself to become ill later that evening. When we returned to the room, I filled out a breakfast slip request form for room service to bring us breakfast the next morning. We put it on the door at around 10pm. The next morning, the food did not arrive during the time we requested, so I called room service and they stated that they didn't have a breakfast request slip for our room. It was now 10:30am, and by the time we got downstairs, all the breakfast buffets were closed so we had no choice but to wait for the pool side lunch buffet to open at noon. We thought we would check out the Sports Bar after someone at the desk said there was food there. I was shocked to see that our "All Inclusive Package" didn't include the $2 dollars it cost to play a video game or play a game of pool. We then went and made reservations for the Flying Fish Bone for that evening. The next morning our breakfast didn't arrive in the time frame noted, so I called room service and was told the food was on its way. After getting our late breakfast and eating, we realized it was 12:15pm, and called the front desk to try and make dinner reservations for that evening in the hotel. We were told that no one was there to make the reservation and that we would have to call back the following day. When we returned to our room that evening, housekeeping didn't resupply the breakfast room service slips, so I called room service and asked for someone to bring us up one, and the person said that they would send someone up from the mini bar. About 30 minutes later house keeping came with towels, and my wife asked the housekeeper, in her limited Spanish if we could get another breakfast request slip. About 20 minutes later another maid returned with one. When we returned from dinner, housekeeping had wet mopped our floor in our room but didn't leave any sign noting this. Both my wife and myself slipped on the floor, because we didn't realize it was wet. When checking out, the person at the desk told us that we couldn't check out without the two towel cards that we got by returning our towels. I proceeded to walk back to the towel shack and get the cards back. I have never stayed at a hotel before that had such horrible customer service. None of the things we requested resulted in a positive outcome...

Great Hotel
Great hotel , very clean and enough options to eat and drink to not think of leaving the resort for a week . After that maybe you will feel like exploring the island a little bit . The gourmet restaurants who require reservations have a nice atmosphere but to be onest the most delicious food and variety was in the Don Nicholas buffet where usually we had the breakfast and we had some great diners too. The only really big problem in this hotel are the people who are going as early as 6 am to reserve a umbrella on the beach or a lounge chair at the pool and then they are not coming back to use them sometimes until 11 am and the people who are coming on the beach at 9 am have no place to stay in the shade just to bake in the sun with a lot of unoccupied umbrellas just a towel or beach bag hanging on them . The hotel managers have to address this issue somehow . Otherwise a great choice if you want to spend a week in a nice hotel , great beach and no headache of finding a place to eat and drink.

Eat at Don Nicholas , best variety of food . The gourmet restaurants have a nice atmosphere but a very limited choice . If you are a person who is use to dine out a lot and and not crave to be served at the table then Don Nicholas is the best . Don't get me wrong , you can try the other restaurants they are ok but you will not feel like going the second time back there .

2010 Hitchcock Honeymoon
The RIU is one of my favorite hotel chains. It's the only place I'd rather stay so I had to introduce it to my new husband. Everything was great except for the last fews days. During breakfast, lunch and dinner the serving staff started slacking. We'd ask for napkins, water, silverware, etc. and they would NEVER bring them after asking multiple times. The first few days were fine but all of a sudden the service wasn't acceptable. We will definitely be back but if that happens next time I will complain to the manager.
