Overview

With an orange rooftop and yellow facade, the Occidental Grand Aruba All Inclusive Oranjestad perfectly reflects the atmosphere and colorful backdrop of the South Caribbean Sea. The outdoor swimming pool has a central island that includes two hot tubs. You can even take a scuba diving class in this natural-style pool. Additionally, a narrow lazy river flows through the central courtyard and is lined with tropical plants and palm trees. Local rocks and man-made waterfalls further highlight the paradise-like setting of this resort. Two illuminated tennis courts allow you to hit some forehands even after the sun sets. You could also take some aqua aerobics classes in the swimming pool or just work out alone in the hotel's gym.

Great Trip

Would recommend Thu, Oct 22, 2015
I have stayed at this hotel before, as well as four others on the Island. The staff has and always will be the best part. Everyone attempts to make your stay amazing. The buffet was recently redone and it looks great. I wasn't able to utilize the wi-fi, but there are computers in the hotel lobby for use. I hope to go back again next year.

Get away trip

Would recommend Sun, Oct 18, 2015
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The resort was small, and the food was OK. The workers were friendly and helpful. The UTV ride was what saved the trip. That was an amazing time on the desert side. The workers were great and we had a blast! The scuba diving was OK.

Trip to Aruba

Would recommend Sat, Oct 3, 2015
The hotel was very nice and having been to Aruba several times, the one thing that could use some improvement is the hotel entertainment. Also, its a little annoying to have to tip the towel guys by the beach to reserve a seat by the beach otherwise, you get either the worst seat or no seat on the beach.

Our trip

Would recommend Wed, Sep 2, 2015
We just spent 10 days at the Occidential Grand in Aruba. We were there for a wedding with about 40 people. Pros: the beach is outstanding you can walk for hours, They have mats that are included and you can use them in the ocean to float around all day. There were always plenty of chairs on the beach and by the pool area. We ate at all the restraunts except the Asian, but people in our party thought that was the best, we enjoyed all of them , I thought the food was very good at the resort, and we loved that you can even drink the water in Aruba and no one in our group got sick. The rooms were clean, and a bit outdated. But the beds were comfie and our shower was great. The down fall with this resort is the staff is pushey with the time share from the second you check in. You just have to be firm on the no's . We walked around town everynight and went to the local bars, we felt very safe there. We rented jeeps one day and went to the other side of the island, very hot and a long day. Aruba is a very clean and safe place to visit. My husband and I have traveled for over 25 years in other countries and by far this was the best experience we had with an all inclusive resort., we Can't wait to go back.

Aruba Wedding

Would not recommend Tue, Sep 1, 2015
My son got married in Aruba at the Occidental Grand. Thirty-three fiends and family members attended - all a the same hotel. While we loved Aruba (the beaches, the weather, the people, the safety), the hotel experience was not what it should have been. As soon as we got to the resort, everyone was very friendly. They even offered to treat us to breakfast the next morning and give us a tour of the resort. We thought this was a great idea since we were the first of the group to arrive. The next morning we went to meet for breakfast and the tour only to be asked to fill out a form asking for a lot of personal information and to present them with our credit card. We refused and were told they just needed to confirm we have a credit card. I said we needed a credit card to reserve the hotel and presented it at the front desk. They continued to say they just needed us to flash it for them. We got up and left. It was obviously a time share ploy and our first morning at the resort put a bad taste in our mouths - and we got breakfast at the buffet. Speaking of food, it was like pulling teeth to get a reservation in one of the several restaurants they advertised. Some weren't open for more than a couple nights of our 10-day stay. We found ourselves at the buffet more often than not and went off resort a few nights. The buffet food was good and the wait staff very attentive and friendly...but it's still a buffet. We will DEFINITELY go back to Aruba, but it will not be at this resort.

They overbooked our room on our honeymoon

Would not recommend Sun, Aug 9, 2015
We arrived in Aruba to celebrate our honeymoon just to find out that the Occidental has overbooked us. They moved us to a neighboring hotel and we had to walk back and forth in order to receive the food we had already paid for with the all inclusive fee. It was such a pain and I would not recommend booking with them again.

Works for All-Inclusive- sort of

Would not recommend Wed, Jul 29, 2015
I have been to Aruba several times and always try to get the all inclusive package (less worry, less hassle!). I normally stay at a different hotel and LOVE it. Unfortunately, my review of the other place must have caught on because I couldn't get into it! It was booked solid. So I opted for this hotel to try because it seemed to be the only other all inclusive hotel on the island. It was okay. The rooms are very old and musty. The inclusive items were not as great as the other place (not as many options and availability). It was a great trip, but I would probably wait for the other hotel.
