Meh.

The hotel was decent...once I got used to the mold smell. Staff was really helpful and friendly, except for the front desk which was barely staffed and unbelievably slow. Food was okay, nothing special but easily available. Drinks were terrible, bottom shelf liquor and tasted like rubbing alcohol. Casino was a joke. The tables were almost never open or the dealers sat around not working during regular business hours. Very strange. Hotel is in a great location though and the beach right in front is beautiful.

Fair getaway

Buffet was poor they were always out of the better food. Reserving restaurants was limited management played games. For example they stated the Mexican restaurant is now a walk in situation, management obviously didn't tell the staff. I had to insist he accommodate my family. I also cannot fathom why the reservation guy wouldn't book my family for the whole week. The hotel should have free Internet service. Your rates are ridiculous. Next time I go to Aruba which I love I will try another establishment. This was my second time at occidental it was much better 6yrs ago.

Horrible

The hotel was overbooked so we were bumped to the Hyatt next door. Had to walk back and forth to partake in the all-inclusive perks and did not received items from the Grand Romance Package as promised. Management would not provide us with a refund due to the mistake on their end. Aruba is a beautiful place but I would not recommend anyone to stay at the Occidental Grand Aruba All Inclusive. The Hyatt tried to accommodate us more than the Occidental did and the Hyatt was not our initial choice of stay. It simply was not a pleasant trip and I am still fuming over the way we were treated. I will never go back to the Occidental Grand Aruba All Inclusive!!!!!!

Great location - food is poor

The beach is beautiful however the all inclusive food is terrible. Rooms are clean but nothing special. You are better off not staying all inclusive in Aruba- since restaurants outside hotels are highly rated.

Not so wonderful experience

Upon arrival at 9:00 pm on July 22, 2014,due to a flight delay, we found our room had not been cleaned from the previous hotel guests (check out is at 12:00 pm) They had 9 hours to clean the room.. We also learned later that it was the only available room left . The ceiling fan did not work; hair dryer was pulled off the wall. We also learned the next day, that the hotel had overbooked rooms, and the couples who arrived after we did, were sent to other hotels for the night. They offered us an upgrade but only for 2 days before departure. We had stayed at the Occidental 2 other times in Aruba, and were very pleased with the Occidental - we will not be going back..

Great pool & beach

There were some amazing things about this hotel and some not so amazing. To start with the good: the beach is clean and beautiful, we found it relatively easy to find a hut on the beach every morning after breakfast and took advantage of the included activities like kayaking, snorkel, and an hour-long sail up the coast. The pool is the best I've seen out of the hotels on the island; there are plenty of activities daily, two hot tubs, and the swim up bar was the place to be, especially since we traveled during the World Cup and they had the games on all day. We spent most mornings on the beach and most afternoons in the pool, it was perfect. It was also a great location; while it isn;t right downtown, there is a nice shopping district right across the street with plenty of street vendors, restaurants, and shops. There are also a good amount of pier bars/restaurants and other hotels within walking distance down the beach. Now for the downsides: we didn't make reservations until we got there so we weren't able to get into all the restaurants. Of the ones that we did get into everything was just okay. Nothing was calling us back and by the last two nights of our trip we decided to go out to eat at other restaurants on the island instead. Luckily, we had planned on this ahead of time, which is why we went with this hotel over the more expensive all-inclusives. Overall, our experience was good. If we could do this resort without the all-inclusive, we would be back often. But other than the ease of access with the beach and pool bars, there isn't much drawing us back to the all-inclusive end of the deal because the food was just mediocre.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take advantage of the free sailing trip up and down the coast from De Palm Tours included with your stay. It was a great opportunity to see what was around us and scope out some activities we wanted to do later in the week.
