DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE
This hotel says "SUITES" but only 6 rooms are real suites, and even those are small. The "Jr. Suite" rooms would not be considered even Superior Doubles in the US -- "Jr. Suites" ? NO --just boxy rooms with beds and a bath -- would be Ramada/Holiday Inn type in the US. Design is beautiful & impressive -- BUT DO NOT STAY HERE. Food is horrible, breakfast buffet is "sad" and coffee is re-heated each morning, watery. Views are striking BUT DID I MENTION THE ROOMS ARE far from even superior, much less SUITES? We stayed two different times because we had PRE-PAID...but each check-out they TRIED to charge us AGAIN!!! The operation of this (beautiful) hotel should land the owners/managers in Jail; total deception. When I asked about this hotel in town (which is reached by too small Shuttle, which only operates at night hours!!!) everyone laughed and said that Design Suites has the worst reputation among Hotel People in Calafate and is plagued by HUGE staff turnover. Finally -- are you ready? Because we had pre-paid, we had to return for a third night on NY's Eve, on our way back from Chile to fly on NY Day to Ushuaia....they had GIVEN AWAY our room (paid for in September!), and put us up at another hotel -- 35 minutes away on the other side of town -- a better hotel and better service BUT we lost two hours of NYears Eve So, do NOT be deceived by the beautiful pictures...DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT STAYING at this gorgeous but HIDEOUSLY RUN hotel...forgot to comment that the elevator was out of service on two of the three pre-paid nights we had booked on the trip. As a lawyer, I plan on filing some sort of complaint with the Argentine government after I catch up from vacation....DO NOT STAY HERE! Rob Thompson, Wash DC.

Design Suites Calafate
Nice Hotel with a gorgeous view of the Argentino Lake, and nice designed suites. The hotel itself is well decorated with a lounge atmosphere, but once in your room this is not soundproof... Far from city center and shuttle only available at 7pm.

Perito Moreno would be the Must along the incredible landscape of La Leona and its petrified rocks and woods.

Great experience!!
Design Suites is on the outskirts of Calafate, they do have a shuttle every hour to and back from town. I recommend renting a car in Calafate, so many places to drive to, if you don't you are stuck with tour buses, distances are enormous. The hotel is ultra modern without feeling cold, very nice staff, big breakfast in the morning (ultra weak coffee though). We had dinner there one night, it was good and the dining room at night has a very nice ambiance. When going outside one night to admire the stars, we heard tons of dogs barking in town! I was glad I didn't stay there having to listen to the barking all night. (Calafate is full of dogs running loose all over the place) I would definitely stay at this hotel if I go back to Calafate, and I very much hope I will! We stayed only 3 days and wish we had stayed longer.

A must do when visiting Calafate is the "minitrekking" on the Perito Moerno glacier!! Unbeatable experience.
